how much for Flint (go on be as honest as you want!)

[ QUOTE ]
Thats bloody awful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You really cant be a horse lover if you see healthy horses going for meat. Especially when theres several people here alone saying they'd take him. Hmm never mind the horse you must defiantely be getting old..

Do you know what the term meat money means??????

And in the real world healthy horses go for meat everyday.

I don't think DieselDog is saying he should be sent for meat, rather that he is worth 'meat money', ie people wouldn't pay more that the price he would fetch as meat.

Aww bless. Some people are perhaps not aware of what happens in the real world. They have a rude awakening coming to them then, poor souls.

I think Flint is very lucky to have found you and you are a bit of a saint to put up with some of the stuff he does. he is a very specialised horse.

michael. Shw isnt saying send him for meat, just that that would be what you could get for him if she did sell him.

to be honest, a horse that rears, bucks, is a rig and is his age isnt realy saleable. I dont personaly know of anyone who would touch something known to rear.

My lad has reared in the past but only when in pain and never ever has it been high enough to be dangerouse (he tends to sit down more then anything) and is a superstar in everyother way with a massive competition record, super flat work and no other quirks, yet alot of the people i know think im crazy for taking him on and woudnt touch him if he was free.

the reason i bought flint (for all his quirks) is because the girl who owned him before me had ruined him (he wasnt like this when she first bought him and she eventually turned him into the horse he used to be!) people told me not to buy, many said give the horse a bullet!! im mother petertreasa and i couldnt do that to him. he's just VERY misunderstood. I do think that there are people who WOULD have a horse like flint... i did

Totally understand where you are coming from. I would have a horse like Flint. He is gorgeous.
Quirks give them character!
My mare came to us on a weeks trial and she was so distressed , boxwalking weaving but an absolute star to ride. I still bought her even against my friends opinion on not to buy her. SHE WAS A VET.
If people like you and me did not keep these horses what would happen to them?

Age might not matter to you, but unfortunately when selling a horse it does. It is a FACT that people are put off buying anything over the age of about 10 these days - not fair maybe but true. The older a horse is, the harder it is to sell [unless its like a mega superstar that is]

its is a fact that SOME people are put off by buying an older horse. There are many a people on my yard that have older hores and have purchased older horses. i repect its down to personal choice

i would purchase an older horse no problem, if you where to sell him however it wouldnt be the age that put the most people off it would be the rearing!

I didn't say everybody, people will buy older horses. However they are harder to sell and generally people will expect to get them for a significant amount less.

oh im not looking to sell him, no body would look after him like i have or will continue to, it was curiosity that led to what people would pay for flint. which has ranged from £250-£5k.

Ok regarding " Do you know what the term meat money means??????

Maybe I did misinterpret it but alot of professional riders ride horses like that and bring them to the top due to be fab riders and seeing potential and knowing how to handle them when they rear/buck cos unless the flip over backwords rearing and bucking wouldnt get me off and im an ok rider.

TGM thanks for taking the time to explain it to me

Tia, your comment was very sarcastic and downputting so all I have to say to you is no im not stupid healthy horses get sent to the meat factory but are you saying you agree with it?? If a horse is really that bad then let them retire and be turned out somewhere or be company for another horse. Selling a healthy horse for meat is selfish!!

Connie thats a really good point, he may be in pain.. and you sound like you have the same attitude as me (but its Michaela not Michael lol)(a woman)

Some people are put off buying older horses but not everyone.. not even half :P

I like abit of a spark in a horse, my thoroughbred kind of bored me. Better seat, better rider, and more open minded when you come to other horses which have the same issues..
