How much for potential event horse? also can you help me with his flatwork!?

Hello,

I have a 5yr old 16.1hh gelding by Solitair and im thinking about selling him as im not an eventer (and i think he would excel in that discipline)

He was backed by myself (an amateur!) so is completely unflappable! very easy to a fence and super genuine. fantastic flashy paces.

He won the discovery at his first show! plenty of scope. XC schooled and proving to be very bold
Im hopefully going to post pics.... could you give me tips on how to improve his flatwork as im a novice and i dont know how to stop him tucking his head in and not using himself properly!

Where abouts are you? Do you have a regular instructor?

The market is very quiet at the moment - the only horses which seem to be selling are cheap :(

depends how quickly you want to sell him......
 
Hi, im based in leicestershire.
Im finding it difficult to price him atm as he hasnt got much of a competition record!
If im being honest with myself i would rather keep him as my showjumper than sell him for any less than £8500 (which i do think seems alot at this point in his career) i think i may be better to take him to some more shows with an aim to increase his value!
However, if he would suit anyone u know at this point feel free to PM me!
 
spacefaer, have to disagree, know 3 horses who have sold the first week of being advertised in the last month, non were cheap!!

lou, he looks lovely, I think if you advertised him at 8.5k you would get interest, even in this market ;)

Not for a five YO with no record BE 4.5/5K more realistic.
 
In theory yes. However, in practise no. I have known a couple of 5yr olds sell in the last 6mnths for over 10k, purely on potential.

I quite agree, people will pay for a nice horse.

The other thing is, a lot of people on here think it's fine to pay 4 K for a 4 year old with good breeding, but won't pay 6K for a 5/6 year old who's going somewhere but only half way there.

I would think 7.5-8.5 K is realistic. Good luck, he's lovely!
