I have someone interested in bringing 4 ponies to the livery yard, but she'd also like to bring 6 others to my uncle's farm, which is a mile away. She'd have the use of 10 acres, and then an area in the barns to bring them in when she wants. She'll be doing of the looking after, poo picking etc.

So how much should we charge for the grazing, water and use of barn? And this will include electricity, as 3 are broodmares so lights at night.

Thanks

Just twigged you didn't say £60 per horse per week......... I will just slink away now..... sorry!!!!!

£20 per week for the first horse, £15 for the next three and £10 for additional horses. 10 acres isn't that much if you mean total for 10 horses, so I would also expect a contribution to rolling and harrowing at least once a year.

Why the face, Amy?

That's dirt cheap around here! I was paying £30 a week for two small ponies until very recently. That did not include a shelter/stable, electricity or any other facilities, no storage either. Literally a field with water supply - hacking not brilliant either. Any electric fencing, rolling, harrowing, spraying..etc was paid by everyone clubbing together. I'm assuming also that lights will be on all night, during foaling periods.

Precisly. Why would you charge based on the number of horses you have. Flat rate per horse. Plus livery charge (it is livery remember, not renting a yard) should include all field and yard maintenance.

Hence the face.

I'd say about £10 - £15 per horse per week. We only pay £20 per horse per week for free access to grazing, a stable and unlimited use of indoor and outdoor schools.

Is she having the use of boxes within the barn? If she is then what she is after is basically DIY livery and you will need to charge accordingly. Even if the box is only used occassionally it will be classed as "hers" and you will be unable to let it to anyone else.

Price wise for DIY with the facilities you have I would expect to pay around £25 - £30 per horse per week.

Do you want to allow someone to look after their own grazing? You run the risk of it not being done to your own standards and you are setting a precident for any other potential clients who may all try and negotiate discounts for doing their own paddock maintenance, dont want to use the walker etc etc.

Dont mean to sound negative, you have a super yard and it is great that clients are coming in just dont lose sight of the type of service you set out to provide.

Sorry, I think I've confused people. She wants livery on the yard for 4 horses, but grass livery for 6 others. These 6 others will be on our other farm 1 mile away, not on the livery yard. She'll have fields and use of an area in one of the barns to put the horses in when she wants.
