My horse was 3 in May and has outgrown his rugs, so buying more for this winter but im scared by the time he needs them, he will have got bigger!

He's very big already, last Feb, when I bought him he was 14'2 and a 6 foot rug. by the end of last winter he was almost 16'2 and 6'6 in rugs!

bearing in mind he was only supposed to make 15'2, I'm hoping he done all of his growing young and has maybe stopped now :/

Just wondered how much more peoples horses grew, but only if they were big young! not for peoples who's horses grew later in life, I don't want to be scared any more haha!!

ETA - this thread will make you worry. http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?629598-My-14-1-pony-is-14hh-( Don't buy him his proper, expensive rug set until he's 7. :p

I already saw this, was going to offer her a couple of inches from my baby haha!

Okay 7, I shall wait! though if he keeps getting bigger he might have to go, hehe! not really, couple never sell him! I guess if he keeps going he will need to make it to 7 foot so then I can get the rugs in the sales that don't fit anyone elses horses haha!

i'm only looking at a £74 master heavy combo, but worried if I buy it now, before the winter gets too expensive, he might have out grown it before he gets to wear it!

I completely understand. Poor Floss was only allowed to have bargain/sale rugs because she outgrew them so quickly and it was such a pain guessing what size she would need in x months time.

I think it would probably be best to pick up second hand/sale rugs until he's definitely finished growing. And just to mention, my horse wears a 6ft9/7ft rug and I hardly ever find them in sales, I think they make so few that they get snapped up as soon as they go on sale, so if he ends up need dinosaur rugs like my boy, pick them up when and where you can!

My boy was sold to me as a 15.3hh maxi cob as a 3 year old lovely just what I wanted, 3 years later he is 17hh & in a 7"3 rug, and so wide. I didn't see that coming. He came from Ireland.

Benny was 16hh when I brought him as a 4year old, even the vet said he would only gain another inch or so but he ended up at 17.3hh (Dutch WB)

Enya was 15hh (Trakehner x WB) when I brought her as a 2year old, she's now standing at around 16hh and I'm a little disappointed that she's not grown more but there is still time she's only 4 still.

You need to get to Robinsons sale. I rummage their sale bins and they always have 7/7'3 left. Along with 5foots. Managed to get a 3'3 for 6.99 for the mini

But thanks for worrying me guys. He's a conny x tb so hopefully won't end up the worlds largest in his breed. Dam was 15'3 sire was 14'2. Surely he won't grow that much more haha. Someone give me hope.

This is an interesting thread :/ starting to make me worry.

My youngster is 15 months and standing at 14hh (bum is way higher) and from when i got her in May, she has gone from wearing 4'3 to 5'9, this is very scary.

I am doing what everyone says as well, picking up rugs cheap as chips and then selling them on as there is always someone looking for a bargain :D

I've done alright so far. Weatherbeeta light. New for 27 quid. A requisite medium new for 23quid just the heavy I'm finding hard to get cheap. He's got a biggish chest so don't want a cheap brand
