How much hair do you take off the back when doing a Hunter Clip??

Obviously I know you leave the legs and the V at the tail but ive seen so many different types around their back?? What you you guys recommend?? Pics would be great! Sx

People do all sorts! Saddle patch, or just a rectangle, or some people leave nothing!

If you do a saddle patch you'd have to make sure it is the right size though, that's the only thing hehe

Last year the boy had a square left on his back, however this year he has nothing as I simply forgot to leave it!

Usually I leave a saddle and legs but last year we had a heavy hunter in and he had everything off. i mean everything, legs, ears, face (still had a mane and tail). He got so hot it was easier to wash him off and keep him happy when he was totally naked. He was a proper hunter, out a couple of times a week, took a few hours to fully clip him out!
Some hunters go out with just blanket clips, depends on the horse.

I would also say all off although I have only ever done blanket clips on my own horses.

We were having this discussion at the yard the other day. People are so used to seeing/clipping horses and leaving saddle patches but why? They are the parts that get sweatiest and leaving it on can't provide much in the way of cushioning the saddle, although everyone still does leave a saddle patch...just habit I guess! We fully clip the hunters

Draw around my saddle- reason for leaving it on is to keep an extra layer between saddle and back. Under saddle not usually the sweatiest part of mine . But generally blanket clip anyway as saves me putting an exercise sheet on. Lazy muchly.

(Use tailors chalk or lipstick to draw around depending on the colour of horse)

I am going to be a bit "different"

I have a native, so she gets very hairy so....I take it all off apart from legs, V, and half a head on the first clip, and then on subsiquent clips she gets a saddle square left simply because she is happier with one.

It means its not thick enough to get her hot, but she seems happier like that so
