My best purchases - 2 grade A's - were £1500 each. Bargain. Last year I bought horses from a Kentucky racing breeder who was about to be done by the RSPCA - 5 horses £1600 total!!
Aww I would have a mind-overload if I added up the cost of EVERY horse I've ever owned.....however I know that since moving here 3 years ago;to date, I've spent over 30K on buying horses; BUT I made more than that figure last year on the sale of just 4 horses; and this year already I've made just over half that amount on the sale of another 2.

The 10 I have actually bought have cost £6140 - can't believe it's that much! (I'm a tightarse!)

How on earth do you buy horses for 600quid each? I must look in the wrong places! lol

LOL!
Just happened to be in the right/wrong place at the right times I suppose though the first cost me £80! (1966) It should have been £110 but they refused to give me a receipt for the 80 so I refused to send them any more until they did - and they didn't!
Dolly has been my biggest purchase to date at £1500 and I ummed and aaahed about that!
I'm not sure I could add it all up! My showjumper cost very little as a youngster, and he went to Grade A and sold for quite a lot - more than paying for himself even after nearly seven years of ownership, vet care, and competing.
I paid a lot for my present horse, he was bought as a grand prix prospect, and hopefully he'll be worth it (when he comes sound, grrr).
Between them I've had a number of project horses, loan horses, nutcases no one else would get on, and some nice youngsters I bought and sold on. Most of them ended up paying for themselves; perhaps I've been lucky.
Ive spent 1500 on 2 horses which I think is pretty good.
I bought first one a 14.2 for 1500, brought on bla bla got to big sold her for 3500. Then bought ben with the money I got from her which he was a bargain but hey ho Im not complaining.
Topsy - Dartmoor - £50
Anna - Arab - inherited
Pollyanna - Arab bred from above - £250 stud fee
Breeze - TB - £200 and best £200 I ever spent
Delia - TB - loaned
Fleur - Hann x TB - £5,000 - worst £5,000 I ever spent
Jemima - Gypsy cob - loaned
Cairo - Clydesdale - loaned but we paid £3,000 vet bill to have loan converted to permanent loan - best £3,000 ever spent
Chancer - Gypsy Cob - £1800 - should have been £2,500 but I did some IT work for the owner
So in 40 odd years of owning horses - £10,050- bargain!
Weve not spent much when you consider weve had a staggering 18 horses and ponies in the last 26 years!
Most of those were bought as youngsters (some unhandled, some in poor condition and sold later) and we had two on loan. When we first started buying horses we could get a really nice horse for £500. I paid £125 for my first pony as a two year old and he really was stunnung! I paid £350 for a 10 year old bay cob who was a really good allrounder, i wish i could do that now!
Our totalis £7225.
I have of course included my oldies who I have had for nearly thirty years!!! Paid about £200 a piece but that was a lot of money for unbroken youngsters then!! The old pony I lost last year was £50! Those were the days!! £7500 has been spent on my last three horses!!

So in total my parents have spent less than £4000 on horses for me, all the bought horses were hand me downs. They also bought Pickles for £300 and sold her for £500. Dad has been bought 2 horses. One for £1800 and one for £2500. If we had bought all my loan horses they probably would have come to around £20,000 but thats why we loan!
I've spent of my own money since I was 16 roughly as I have probably forgotton some or got the money wrong £39,700 on 17 horses
Thanks for that MagicMelon, I feel so much better now. Especially as I don't have a horse to ride anymore, so if anyone wants to give me one or sell me a cheap one (I have no money left) that would be fabulous!
Well before i bought my first horse in 2004 i had loaned various nags for years.Bought Hannah for £3200 in 2004 although have spent over £2000 in vet bills trying to find out whats wrong with her and trying to get her injury diagnosed as something.I might add another one soon as i'm actively looking to buy another and am hopefully (cross everything) putting a deposit down for one on sunday if all goes well, wish me luck!
