I'm sick to death of this weather. I've not been able to ride as much as I would like but I'm not alone there! Just wondered how much work you have been able to give your horses lately? I'm panicking a bit just entered my first dressage comp for 5 years on a horse who has only done three tests in his life. Weather needs to improve quickly - trying to school youngster in wind and rain is driving me nuts!!

every day luckily we have an indoor school (small 12x24) but it does the job. My horse has navicular so i dont hack anyway - only across the fields if soft enough - so my horse has the plesaure of working every day no matter what the weather - and she is so pleased about it ...not!! lol....No She does actually mope if she doesnt get worked - plus it helps her arthritis.

I've found it very difficult this week because of the wind which has been so strong here it's been really scary. I've managed to ride both on two days and R on one more day, but that is a lot less than I would normally do (both 6 days a week).

Can only ride 3x per week in winter due to weather and darkness, unfortunately have no flood lights in ménage.

Have driven car up and lit up one corner of school in previous winter but field gate is too muddy to drive car through to get to ménage!

However, haven't ridden for 6 weeks as saddle doesn't fit, so been lunging instead. Saddler coming on Tuesday! Although not looking forward to getting on as he will probably be very excited.

Hopefully he will behave.

I was riding at least three days a week, usually six or seven, until about a week ago when I finally decided that until Scooby's saddle is sorted, I am not going to use it. Now it's just lunging, which I am nowhere near as good with - when I need to ride, I will do it come rain or shine... but lunging just isn't interesting enough to get me out of the nice warm office, so he's only been lunged once this week...

Tomorrow I might go for a pootle bareback - although he is sooo round I am liable to slide straight off.

About four months since I've been in the saddle and he'll have about another 6 weeks off after I've had the baby (hopefully vv soon).....then, there'll be no stopping me with almost 6 months to make up for

OMG what a brave bunch of souls we are and I thought I was the only mad one, must admit I don't ride in high winds. But car lights yes, stuck in muddy field yes. Makes you glad to be British

Normally ride at least 3 times a week (7days) but this week I have been working really hard to get a CH job finished so only ridden twice, but hey ho last Sats ride was 15 miles SE club, just ridden the River diversion at the side of 70 mph traffic, well not impressed, STILL no signs for horse riders, really starting to piss me off now

Ridden every night for the last week (unless you count the fact that my instructor did the riding tonight! xD)
2 all weather outdoor schools (floodlit) and 2 indoor schools for hire... no real problems there.
And I don't dissolve in rain :P

Ah its amazing what we go through to ride our horses no wonder some people think we are nuts! My oh just doesn't get it thinks I work mine too much(5-6 days a wk)
I'm obviously not alone though!

Just at the weekends at the moment, studying and work has taken over my life in the week!! It only really rained today here so would have ridden in week if not for above reasons!!

i think the midlands are having an easier time of it than some places.....i rode monday and only got mildly damp, had a lesson on wed and again only got slightly drizzled on, thur rode in a gale but pony is totally non spooky so no issue and tonight did canter work round the school and it was still and dry.

pony now has weekend off, so will miss the crappy weather we have been forecast!

Well I can't find Luca but he is being long lined 6 times a week come rain or shine - vets instructions... neither of us melt in rain and are both far too big to be blown away so out we go

hardly at all

now it's dark after work i can only ride at weekends anyway, at least til we get lights sorted on the school, Milly is on full livery in the week but she has hardly done anything, cause of the weather and various other things, i lunged her last weekend as there was no one around to hack with, and i expect i'll end up lunging this weekend again, as my friend who i hack with's baby is very poorly in hosiptal, poor little mite. Still horses get turned out for 6 hours a day so at least they get some excercise.

horse has to be exercised at least 5 times a week any less and he tries to do some form of self mutilation

nomally ride on my two days off and my half day and then lunge by the moon light on the other two/three. Yard owner seems to think that we are made of money and tries to charge £10 an hour for lighting. Could understand if the lighting was good but tbh a fag lighter gives out more power

I'm considering giving up, as every time I've ridden this week I've left the yard in the sunshine then horizontal rain and gale force winds appear out of nowhere, soaking the pair of us and leaving me to deal with a very p!ssed off horse!
