Hi all, not posted much as more of a lurker but would like some opinions on how much hay a mini shetland might need. I have 2 who live on a large area of hardstanding and a long track which has enough grass for them to nibble on. They are both a little too well weightwise. They have both had lammi before but this system seems to work well.

I would like to know how much hay they would need over a 24 hour period bearing in mind the nibbling of grass they have. I think I am giving them far too much as I can't bear to think of them hungry. They get a small bucket feed with vit and min supplements and although a little tubby are happy and glowing with health and their feet look fab.

About 1.5% of their body weight of dry weight hay that has been soaked. You can put it at intervals around the track to make them walk for it. I find this is a great way of controling weight.

Thankyou for your reply, I do not know what they weigh sadly, or what a mini shetland might weigh - I inherited theses 2 and need to do some research I feel!!
