I am still new to horse owning and am probably about to ask a really silly question but here goes anyway.....how much hay should a horse have if he is stabled 24/7? He gets no hard feed. He was on haylage but he got a bit silly so he was swapped to hay and has calmed down. I always thought that hay should be fed ad lib and topped up so that he always had access to it but is this right?

Me 3 always fed ad-lib

I put in very large nets/bags so there is always something left when I get there - they eat as much as they want. As they are not overweight there is no problem with this.

Mine don't get hard feed but have high fibre products with a good vit supplement.

I feed as much as they will eat. Its natural for a horse to be grazing pretty much all the time so that says it all really.
