would you feed a generally good doer at night during the winter? He is a 15.1 con x . He goes out every day from 6.30am untill 3.00pm and is stabled at night He has 2 small bucket feeds a day consisting of high fibre cubes, un mollassed chaff and a small helping of speedi beet. In really cold weather/ snow etc he will have haylage in the field as this always gets eaten!

During the winter due to work , lack of light and weather he only gets ridden at the weekends. He will be rugged.

I,m trying to decide how much hay I will need from approximately mid october to the end of march. ( approx 25 weeks)

I would try to give two nets if he is in from 3pm - 6.30pm, not sure if that would be possible? As in one at 3pm and another at say 9pm? Of a couple of slices each. I say this becuase my native would just stuff themselves if I gave them a night net at 3pm and would have finished by 5pm!!

Will he have hay in the field too? I used a lot last winter in the field.

When he comes in at 3pm I usually give him a small amount of haylage to munch on while I poo pick, brush, maybe lunge or just generally faff around. My mare has haylage all the time as she doesn't hold weight very well. Their biggest and last net is usually given at about 5.30pm
