My 12 year old WB was diagnosed with caudal heel pain following intermittent lameness 2 years ago. MRI showed a couple of issues with the right fore, he was given tildren and I took off his shoes. He spent last year just plodding around and then I got pregnant so although hacking fit (thanks mum!) he did very little. Since having my son I have got out and about and we are both really enjoying ourselves jumping and doing flat work on different terrain alongside hacking so he has done more work in the last 6 weeks than he has in the last 2 years. He is still barefoot and I took some pictures and videos today to see how he was coping. I have some stills from the vids and it looks to me like he is obviously heel first on left fore but only subtlety on right fore but I don't know how 'obvious' it needs to be. I can see some good angle changes and to my inexperienced eye his feet look good but I was hoping for some CC and comments! TIA

I hope that these links work!

The hooves are looking good, but with the new higher workload, I expect that the hoof wall angle will improve again. It definitely looks a bit steeper right under the coronet. :)

RE the landing, I was told that with the naked eye and the horse walking on completely flat ground, the landing should look pretty flat. If you take a slomo video, then you should just see the heel first landing.

I think the feet look good and will be even better when that angle change comes to the bottom .
Do you know when that change started was it the start of harder work ?
You do need a good slo mo video to really see foot fall on most horses .
My trimmers great at getting good footage I am awful.
I think difference between one limb and the other is always something you need to try to get to the bottom of .
I always worry it's the first sign of things that are not quite right .

Lovely, thanks both! I think the last angle change is prob from increase in work which is promising..... Glad that nothing major jumps out from hoof pictures. Agree about keeping an eye on the difference, he is super stiff on the right rein which I am trying to address, will be interesting to see if this reduces the difference or is caused by an issue on the right fore?

I'm finding it hard as ever not to over analyse everything. I think ultimately he is feeling good at the moment and I should just enjoy him.....he will either continue to improve or his old issue will flare up again I guess, (bone odema in right nav bone and suspected mild wear to right ddft). Thanks for your opinion :)
