Hi there,
Im going to view a horse on loan with a view to buy, hes a 16hh ISH 3/4 draught. Grey 5 yr old gelding. Done all the basics, a good hack seen xc fences etc, just a little green in the jumping area. Just wondering what your thoughts were on how much hes worth?

I bought my pure bred ID, 16.1, 4 year old, very lightly hunted, been out toone dressage comp and won both classes (not sure how as very wobbly), safe jump. Forward hack £5.5k, was for sale at 6k in June when I bought him.

Saying that he has good breeding but still a gelding! oh and he's broken now!! What are they advertising him for??

He is for loan with view to buy so I wont know until I go at the weekend, he hasnt done any shows or anything just the basic schooling in all areas so I was just wondering what people thought for a rough estimate really, thank you.

Ok looks like your typical ISH however slightly more chunky as hes more draught than tb, he has balanced paces and correct. Cant be worth that much surely he hasnt done any shows! Lol, wel see.

a horse with potential to go on well competing doesn't have to have done any shows to be worth £15k or more- look at the prices of young horses at performance auctions!

i have had 2 x offers of £10k+ for my 3yro who has never been to any sort of show (he is not for sale though!)

if he is just likely to make a nice allrounder and not scale great heights in affilated competitions then i would say £2.5-3.5k depending on how well educated he is and how much you want him!

But with any 5yo you are to an extent paying for potential rather than previous record. I paid almost 10K for an ISH 5yo last year that hadn't been to any shows - he had a fab jump. And like millitiger said, also depends on his confo, attitude, paces etc. Without seeing a video or at least pics of this horse we are all just stabbing in the dark!
