She is a 12hh cross breed, with sweet itch. she has rubbed off the top of her tail and has some sores on her face; 7 yr old, experienced with every thing been shown, done showjumping, and hunted, quiet and calm.
How much do you think she is worth because she is lovely but its just the sweet itch??
Thaanks :]

Well, if she's safe as houses many PC mummies will manage the sweet itch in return for a happy, confident child who can go off and have fun. Therefore, £900ish? If it's gone to 2'3ish and done XC and is completely stop and startable (ie a kick for it to goand a tug ofr her to stop!). If it's well-known in the PC ask for £2000- seriously, a 19y0 pony near us sold for this much (with sweet itch!) because it was the perfect PC pony, and was well known for being a total gem with even the tiniest rider...

Personally I wouldn't pay that much with sweet itch, but as NoSurrender said many people would be willing to manage this if she is a sweetie with experience

Hiya;
Thanks soo much for reply! Im actually thinking of buying her not selling her! She has done pc, xc and everything and is only 7! Thanks so much for reply!!

I think they are selling her for £1200, and now that i have the replys im thinking....it may be a bit too much!
But i think i can manage the sweet itch, have you had any experience with ponys with sweet itch?

Care of sweet itch is manageable if you plan well. Do not turn out during the day in the summer months. Only turn out after dusk and bring in early morning. Electric fencing round grazing to prevent rubbing. There are some excellent rugs specially made for sweet itch sufferers. Keep away from standing or stagnant water, this is a breeding heaven for the midgies that bite and cause the sweet itch. There are lot's more tips that can assist in the management of sweet itch but this is just a few to give you an idea. Hope it is helpful.

I do think that is a little too much, but that is just my opinion. there are plenty of ponies going that are exactly the same "standard" minus the sweet itch that are a lot cheaper than that. perhaps try to negotiate with them? is the tack etc included (sorry if you mentioned this)?

I loaned a pony in the past who suffered from sweet itch, he had to be brought in about 3pm every day to avoid the bugs outside :P, had aloe vera in his mane and tail, a fly rug with a belly guard and a good fly spray to help him out. he wasnt very bad though, it was only slight , and admittedly i dont have a lot of knowledge on it, just did what was suggested.

Hi PandaPop,
No there is not tack any tack included,
It sounds like hard work loaning that pony, but i guess you just get used to it? Also did you find when riding that pony that they got distracted from their work by the flys?

He did get very very irritable about it sometimes and it did cause him to tart around spinning and bolting because of it.

If you use a good spray or treatment and ride when the flies and midges arent really around you should be fine.

it always seemed worse with the good weather unfortunately.

my 2 year old has sweet itch it is manageable i just put sweet itch lotion on him twice a day and a food supplement it takes time but doubt it will effect their ridden work

We bought a saintly section a with sweetitch and he was the best pony ever. In the 3 years we had him he wore a fly rug outside and in apart from the winter when there were no flies and he work a nz or stables rugs. All we needed to do was put on benzyl benzoate every 4 days and slip his winter coat off in April so we could keep his skin clean. He was no bother at all really and worth his weight in gold as a schoolmaster.

Heey measles your post was very interesting actually, because the pony we are thinking about is part welsh! Its amazing how that pony had sweet itch and was still a school master, as they get upset with the flys alot!
Thanks so much for post!

sarahsum1; Thanks for you post aswell! She truly is a very genuine pony!
Thankyou!

If she's that genuine, thn get her now while you can! Small ponies like that only get more valuable, and she sounds super!
