Hi, how much do you think this box is worth?

vw lt35 3.5t N/1995 reg, 2.5 diesel. starts and runs fine, no probs. rear load/unload, for probably 2 large ponies herringbone (which is all i need), not sure of payload. 6 months tax and mot, paintwork in good condition, very clean inside and out. twin rear wheels. no living or extras

its one im thinking of buying, just wondering what would be reasonable offer before i say how much the ad is?

thanks very much

Anything between £1500 and £7000 depending on condition. There are some really shocking death traps out there that are likely to leave you stranded by the side of the main road but people will still sell them. My friend got caught out with a van that failed its MOT 7 times and kept breaking down when she was out. When I was looking to buy a van we had the RAC check one we were interested in. It looked fine to the naked eye but he said it was a death trap and refused to even road test it. I'm not saying this one will be, impossible to tell without looking at it but beware that you'll get what you pay for. If it seems to good to be true it probably is.

If it turns out to be a shocker I'm selling mine which would be what you're looking for... Pm me if you'd like details.

thanks, it is towards the lower end of that price bracket, so i was wondering why as some of the older d/e/f reg seem to go for quite a few grand. will be sure to check the floor and ramp, do you have any others tips?

ive been 'had' before when buying an older transit box which turned out to be safe for horses but mechanically needed scrapping even tho it had just passed an mot!

i might drive it until mot runs out then swap onto newer chassis if its not likely to pass mot

I had an E reg Vw LT35 and bought it for £2300 and sold it a couple of years later for
£5100! It had been resprayed a couple of years before i got it so looked great and the man who had it before paid for loads to be done to it incl new floor in box and added extras for his pony club daughters, showed me all receipts. He was also a bit too keen as he bodged the electrics up and soon after i bought it it needed £600 and new battery on it,after that was all sorted it was fine. A few pics to give you an idea on price are below. It had full living inc sink, fridge, hob etc had a lovely big sunlight so v airy, slept 4 people, had matching everything and a door through to horse area, saddle racks/bridle racks.Had horse wash hose on outside for wash downs at comps and loads more. Carried 2 x 14.2hhs or 1 x 15hh,i got a larger horse so had to sell it but really didn't want too :( The market was v good at the time for 3.5t's so new i would get a good price for it. All i would say is check the gearbox on these models carefully, they are clunky and stiff and they go quite often, mine was stiff up to 2nd and down to 2nd but apparently the MOT man said he'd seen a lot worse!!!

Funny you should say that about the gear box. A friend of mine has got a box, very similar to your one pictured, and the gear box is awful. Upside down, 1st gear being downwards. Terrible to change between 1st and 2nd gear. Alright with the rest though!
