How much is too much??

Seeing as so many of you are here wanted to put a question to you.
Horses these days are generally sold around the £4,000+ mark generally more when looking in places such as horse and hound, even for unproven youngsters.
I am looking to set up my own business producing ex racehorses and selling them on. I was wondering whether people feel that if you're looking for a general allrounder for local competitions and low level affiliation are the prices to high?
I feel that something unproven or unlikely to bring in income or increase in value is not worth thousands and thousands.
 
Personally I think the prices of horses at the moment are just plain ridiculous. But then I am a bit of a skin flint

When you are selling, do you struggle to get the money, and when you are buying, everything seems too high. The age old addage.
 
They arnt really that expensive
look at a dog you can pay 1k easy for a dog
House prices everything has gone up!!

Twenty years ago the average horse used to be 1k
Twenty years ago the average house used to be £40k -
a packet of fags (20) used to be £2.50
and a beer £1.20
see where i am going here .... x
 
true the price of everything rises, and people have more disposable income to spend on luxuries but surely anyone with horse sense would be unsure on spending thousands and thousands on something that was unproven or could break a leg tomorrow?
Which brings me on to horses being kept in as deemed too expensive to be risked turning out, pure madness and detrimental to the horse!

there are designer horses, thats the world for you
I am not saying its right - but thats the way it is ..

Just because a horse hasnt got a great big record - is better is most cases then you arnt resistricted to what classes you can do and you can produce the horse the way you like it to go x

I never turn my horses out at night - i like them fresh to ride
 
i agree that something thats done less is appealing to some, i myself like youngsters to start from scratch so i dont have to undo someone elses work to begin my own, and some horses are worth their weight in gold.
My problem is people pay top notch prices for fashion and to look good down the local livery yard, i've seen time after time quality beautiful horses slowly ruined and made unhappy day by day by people who buy a Grade A or similar as a happy hacker or with lack of experience to deal with horse of such calibre!
 
Yes some horse just arnt happy when they stop or dont compete as much.

But some horse are happy just plodding about (being wasted, if you like)

Its like knowing you have that engine there (if you need it)

I love coloured horses (not the hair ones) and they are being sold for silly money at the moment x
 
People can advertise what they like, does not mean they are getting loads of enquiries for them. It also does not mean that eventually they get anywhere near the price. I gaged the price with what was already on the sites, plus H&H & Horse Deals, meant diddly squat. She made little more the dog meat because at the end of the day she had been for sale since Nov on various sites & only generated 5 enquries. Her only down side was she was green, otherwise she was a really nice mare.
 
I agree with JACQSZOO prices are bonkers. I am looking for an unbroken IDx anything really and can't find anything in my price range. If I wanted a Welsh cob I'd be home dry. (I live in Wales, they are everywhere)
 
People aren't selling horses though at the prices that they want. I was looking recently and none of the expensive horses were selling and people were dropping their prices.
