How much is your insurance?

My insurance is £55 quid per month. That's with hirse valued at 1800 him having a few exclusions, front feet and anything to do with skin. Or his vices. ... but I am insured for more too due to a very bad riding accident a few years ago otherwise it would be more like 45 50 quid per month.

Mine was with Amtrust - £65pcm for a horse valued £1500 with up to £5k vets fees and a £500 (!) excess. No tack cover. I had no claims for the first year as all incidences were under the excess but declared them at renewal time. Upon renewal they decided to exclude anything relating to the digestive system, any allergic reactions of known or unknown cause, and the entirety of all 4 legs.

This is because horse had one case of spasmodic colic and ended up going to horsepital for 3 days due to a reaction to the Buscopan. This was first thought to be allergic but we now know is because the vet accidentally gave an amount of it IM rather than IV. And a farrier trimmed her too short so she was lame in all 4 feet and I had vet out to ensure it wasn't lami (some of you might remember my thread!).

I've not bothered with insuring the horse any more, I'm just putting money aside each month and have a credit card with a high limit for any really big bills.

I have 3 of my 4 insured (my old boy ex-racer is my dads and would have very little covered now due to previous injuries and would not put through colic op). If it was just my 12 yo mare I would consider the risk of not insuring and coping on credit cards if the worst happened. but now have 2 4yos recently backed and with horses they could all be broken at once! I am with KBIS and pay £88 a month for all 3- just doing hacking and riding club activities, cant remember the exact cover, but bronze level included high vet fee and colic cover and quite a low excess

remember some seem cheaper but have a high excess :( so are only worth it if you also always have the excess aside and then you may not chose to claim if the bill is not big enough

With petplan, I think I pay £31 for 5k vets cover, 1k value and public liability. The excess is around £150. No exclusions currently but only owned the horse since April!
