How much livery do you pay each week?

I am beginning to stress about the amount on money I spend to keep my horse, and wonder whether I am doing so unnessesarily.
So would be really interested to hear what other people think is acceptible and what type of livery they have and how they cope. e.g. full, part, diy, grass.

For instance I am on part livery and pay the same all year round despite my horse living out during summer. During winter he is turned out brought in & mucked out 5 days per wk, hay & bed. This is around £80 pw.
Also interested to see who else gets charged 5 wk months. (eeeekkkk!)

But if I was on diy surely spending less in summer would make up the expense in winter, is this the case.

Am I mad?
 
I used to be on part livery where my horse lived out in the summer but in in the winter. The price was something like £35 per week in Winter, and £20 per week in Summer. Saying that though, I know of a lot of livery yards that do the same as yours, and not dropping the rate in Summer. Nah..never had the 5 week month scenario!
 
No neither had I and having just been hit with another despite the horse living out through summer I am really starting the question things. God £35 per week, I would literally be in heaven.

What livery do you have & how much?
 
I pay £65 for part livery in winter to include as much turnout as the ground allows, all hay/haylage required, straw/shavings (and the beds are lovely and thick with massive banks!), mucking out / skipping out 5 days per week, hard feed, basic grooming (e.g. feet picked out and flicked over with a brush), rug changing, being there for farrier/vets etc and putting on horse walker as and when required.

In summer it depends what you want, (basic grass livery is £25pw - basically just the field is provided and nothing else), but I go for the part livery summer version of the above - 24/7 turnout, poo picking done 5 days per week, rugs changed as required, sun cream and fly spray applied as required and feet picked out daily. They also bring in for farrier/vet etc if asked. That is £45pw.

Payment is every 4 weeks.

Extras all year round are clipping, exercise (other than horse walker), worming, supplements and lessons.

Guess it depends hugely on where in the country you are to a certain extent. I'm in Worcestershire.

I'm very happy with what I pay as the yard is second to none, my horse is very happy there and I know things are always done to the very highest standard.

I pay £20.00 a week DIY for stable, grazing, water, lights, storage ect. No school but lovely hacking. Turnout is 24/7 all year round if we want it which can be quite hard to find these days.
 
Yes turnout is probably no1 on my list, my gelding loves to be out as much as poss.
I also need a school & a fairly secure location as during winter I don't get to the yard until 7.

My yard is perfect great turnout, hacking, location, decent school but it does seem a bit too pricey.
 
im on diy and pay £90 per month for stable, good grass-24/7 in summer and everyday in winter-which is private or pairs, school, jump field, jumps, storage, and free trailer parking if needed. and fab hacking

then in summer i dont really spend that much other than the £90 livery, usually i buy 1 bag of feed balancer which sees me through whole summer, and obv farrier and the odd bale of hay/staw if needed.
so in summer i only spend around £100 excluding farrier, vets bills. per month

then in winter obv the £90 livery, then about £25 on feed (hi-fi, balancer, speedi-beet), hay around £36 (that was at £3 bale not surre what the price will be this year) thats using 3 bales a week, then £20 on bedding, then obv farrier.

so really in winter i pay around £171 excluding farrier/vet bills, with no services. per month

I pay just under £160 a month for DIY which includes big stable, field with one other horse, unlimited haylage and straw. I think it's a good deal, particularly as mine when in is on adlib hay. Becomes annoying when quality of haylage and straw is poor. I would be cross if I had to pay for part livery all the year round, if my horse is out 24/7 in the summer. But I suppose from YO's point of view, they have to make their money.
But I sympathise with you! Horses are a bottomless pit of money

Well yes the yard owner would say that I choose to have the horse out. I don't get ad lib hay and sometimes require extra but in winter it isn't that bad a deal, however I think long term it would be a far better idea to move to diy and the money and work you save in summer makes up for the winter.

After all it seems crazy to spend the majority of my wages keeping a horse, cows seem to manage well enough without all the pampering then I may have extra cash for shows ect.
 
I was paying £65 a week Part livery, that was 1/2 a bale of straw a day, 12lb (and no more !!) of hay a day, feed and one turnout in Norfolk.

Coming into summer I realised how much money I was wasting, they had 24/7 t/out but I was paying for straw and hay that I didnt need and wan't allowed to then use come winter time when I needed more than the allowance. Feed in summer was half of what it was winter time. Prices were the same regardless

My cost are now £30 a week DIY, that covers 2 acres, stable, straw and a basic outdoor school and lots of off road hacking.

I will pay more winter time compared to summer but Im paying for what I use not for someone else to make a profit on.
 
When my horse was on part livery I paid £80 excluding wormer and farrier. Also paid extra if I used more than a bale of shavings too.

Hes on DIY now and I pay £105 per month for all year grazing, stable, storage, water/electricty, hacking and unlimited hay use.
 
I too realised that I was working JUST to keep my horse last year when I had her on part livery. I had no money left for myself and scraped by to pay bills.
Everything else was extra, such as hay, shavings feed and use of the school. I was paying over £300 per month in the winter. They did have summer rates which were slightly cheaper. However, having said all that, the yard was lovley and the owners brilliant.
I now have her on DIY and have found a lovely yard nearer to where I live. I pay £60 per month, whether it be a 4 week or 5 week month. There is no all weather menage, but a schooling field which suits my girlie as she seemed to struggle through an all weather menage's surface. Hacking is good too.
 
I pay 47 per week for part livery. This includes bedding, ad lib haylage, hard feed and stable. They turn out and bring in and do feeds etc.
 
Im Paying £20per week for stable, all year turn out & water, were in Yorkshire, its a nice little yard but no menage, then again i only really hack i guess you pay for what you get
