i swear abby is the messiest horse i've ever had! i have to take out 1 and a half wheelbarrows of soaked straw everyday, poppy usually half a barrow! so it got me thinking bout how much straw etc everyone goes through?

random i know but was just curious

I usually have about 2/3rds of a wheelbarrow for my 3!! I would not give up my rubber matting for anything

i take 2 and a bit wheelbarrows out everyday !!!
he is very messy,i was talking to his old owner a while ago and she said oh yeh i forgot to say hes the dirtyest horse they have ever owned lol !!! i said oh yeh thanks for warning me lol !!!

As little as possible, I'm really particular about how much bed I take out and have to make sure every last bit of shavings drops of the fork! (especially with the price of shavings being as they are!) I literally just take out all the poo and the very wet bedding as well as any uneaten hay. usually about half a wheelbarrow (he's on a thin bed on mats)

i'm the same as u bozzy when mucking out, its the way i was taught waste nothing, and i still end up wi more than a whole wheel barrow lol!!

My horse is on rubber matting + a full shavings bed - I hardly ever muck him out (

- he lives with my mum and she does it) but i did him the other day, probably didn't do a great job and took a wheel barrow and about a 1/4 out. But he's big and eats at lot!

I take about 3/4 of a barrow out everyday, He is very clean for a big horse, if its been raining though It varies what I get. And he doesnt get turned out in winter either so that is from being stood in, In summer I get just the bottom of the barrow covered.

usually take 1 wheelbarrow out but half of it is haylidge!! bracken is not that bad she tends to only go in the same places! the only downside is that she likes to bury 1 suprise poo somewhere in her bed!! and can cover it up as if the straw hasnt been touched!!! have had a worse horse! had to take whole bed out everyday :-( and that was in the days before rubber matting was everywhere so a full bed had to be done every day!!!

I used to have a deep litter bed and would have a good clear out twice a week and would have between 4 and 5 wheelbarrow loads!! Gave that up and now its between 1 and 2 wheelbarrow loads everyday but takes half the time thank goodness

Well mines not in everynight but when she is it's about up to one wheel barrow load max. She's gone from shavings to straw as we get it inc in our livery so i thought i'd try and use my shavings money towards her schooling which is going to cost me £200 a mth from feb onwards. She was a lot cleaner on shavings, had 2 poos and one small wee then but shes a bit dirtier on the straw for some reason, although to be honest compared to some who walk it in she's very clean.

I don't get this! The poo alone is 3/4 barrow load from my 14.2 pony's stable, that's skipped out by hand wearing rubber gloves, so minimal shavings wastage. Then there's about a barrow load of wet shavings usually as well. He's out for about 8 hours a day, in at night. And I wouldn't say he's a minger at all. I do a full muckout every day.

Mucking out a straw stable, I would say anything under 2 barrowloads is a clean stable. That's a normal garden wheelbarrow.

Do you all use those enormous wheelbarrows?

I also deep litter through the week and do full muckout on weekend, We have a massive rectangular barrow (can put 2 straw bales flat in the bottom side by side) and i take 1½-2 out of each stable.

wow you poor thing, thats a lot of poo! Well mine comes in at about 7pm and is out by 9am. I use an ordinary wheelbarrow,i am v.lucky though,my mare poos twice and wee's once usually through out the night,v.odd i know!
She's not a poo monster in general though,if your schooling she never does a poo even if she is in there for an hour and a half!

one barrow each
mare on mats with minumal bed in one corner.takes 5mins to shovel it in and brush up
filly on sawdust with straw on the top.i just take out any wet straw and muck.takes about 5mins as shes pretty clean

If I was to take an average based on the 30 odd horses I muck out (with help... but I know the beds LOL) I would take about

1/2 to 2/3 wheelbarrow from a deep litter straw bed
1 to 2 heaped wheelbarrows from a non deep litter straw bed
1 heaped wheelbarrow from a regular shavings bed
2/3s wheelbarrow from a deep litter shavings bed.

But it depends who did them the day before, S is really thorough, I'm kinda inbetween and there is another girl who is very quick but tends to leave the backs untouched so it can be a bit gross the next day

I take out about 1/2 to a full wheelbarrow a day, she is on a shavings bed that gets a full muck out everyday.
She does'nt really poo much but she wee's for England lol x

On an average day when he is in from about 7pm til 7am, I take out about 1/2 garden sized wheelbarrow. He poos a LOT (as fruity will testify) but doesn't walk it around and only wees once!!

You know those Tubtrugs, biggest size? About 2/3rds of one of those!!

Rubber mats, witha 3-4inch half bed, adlib hayledge fed from the floor. Hayledge stays where its ment to, bed is very very tidy, and often poos aren't even on the shavings. Would rather wee in the field, although now she is heavily pregnant poor girl can't always wait until she gets to the field.

As little as possible and depends on the size of the wheelbarrow!

In the big green two wheeler barrow i can usually do all 3 boys in just the one barrow.

In the little one wheeler barrow i usually take 1 and a bit barrows out of each of them

When she was on straw 1 - 2 barrows a day. Now its matting and flax it's about three quarters of a barrow a day for the two of them.
