Cider Vinegar
Seaweed Powder
Corn Oil

Also, the dodgy Fat One one currently gets a 'loading' dose of glucosamine supplement and I plan on giving him soaked Devils Claw root in his dinner after we have done a particularly strenuous hack as an anti-inflammatory.

Thanks

Actually question should really be more sort of open, I phrased it rather badly - perhaps this is better:

What are these supplements supposed to do and how much should you feed if they are used?

Cider Vinegar is used for Digestion and also is useful in horse that suffer with 'Tying up'

Seaweed Powder is used if you have poor pasture and is also useful for helping strong joints develop in youngstock

Corn Oil is used for coat condition

try globalherbs.co.uk for doses

I feed half a cup of corn oil a day, and will start feeding cidar vinegar soon. Both for joints - my farrier believes Dibbs is starting to show signs of arthritis, so doing all I can to help.

Also have just started feeding Dodsen and Horrel's Mobility, which contains herbs such as Devil's Claw.

1. Used to feed for joints to an arthiritic horse
2. I didn't know people fed seaweed powder so no idea why
3. Mine is getting it as an alternative source of calories to carbohydrates/sugars

Re. the Devil's Claw, I think you have to feed it every day to see any benefits don't you?

Apple cider vinegar is used for all sorts - digestion, respiration, joints, flies, etc. etc. Also good to get the horse to eat its food.
Seaweed is a good general supplement I think, especially for good doers (something to do with aiding metabolism - NAF Slimline supplement contains seaweed).

I feed my horse liquid devil's claw whenever she gets "iffy" on her feet. It takes two/three days max to see a difference. It works almost as well as bute for keeping her hacking sound, but I don't have to feed it that often

Silmarillion - Yes, I was just going to soak the DC root in 1/2 litre water and mix it in with his feed (as recommended by the supplier) for a few days after a heavy workload. He's a bit like me, stiff and crocked in the back after a long hack! I don't want to feed it as a regular thing as I believe it can cause stomach problems - wish I bought the Boswellia now but, hey ho...

I feed cider vinegar for all those reasons and, even though his stable smells like a chip shop while he's having dinner, he loves it.

Just an update - seaweed powder STINKS and neither of my two were impressed at breakfast, and I only gave them a tiny bit to try it out. Think that will end up being dug into the veggie patch!

Corn oil is for coat condition if you are talking about the supermarket stuff.
unproccessed corn oil (im yet to find any readily available) is for energy / stamina help.

the difference is the heat process the supermarket stuff undergoes which gets rid of the sugars etc required for energy. if you want energy from oil Soya Oil is more readily available. i started feeding it to my mare about a month ago and its having a very good effect.
