The simple answer is… too many! But I do like to be prepared for any eventuality.

For 1 horse I have:
2 no fill sheets
1 100g standard neck turnout
2 100g combo turnout
2 200g combo turnout
1 300g combo turnout
1 450g combo turnout
2 lightweight stable rugs
2 heavyweight stable rugs
2 fly sheets
1 cooler
2 exercise sheets

And this is after my HUGE clear out

for 1 (native) pony!

1 200g (i think) stable with fixed full neck
1 100g stable with detachable neck
1 0g turnout standard neck
1 medium/heavy turnout standard neck
1 medium turnout fixed full neck
1 fleece standard neck
1 fleece full fixed neck
1 fly rug

in my defence, and i’ve only bought 1 of these! my mum bought her the fleece with a neck for after bathing and the full neck turnout was gifted to us today, i bought the 100g stable rug. everything else came with her.

i’m not satisfied though! i want a 0/50g stable rug with detachable neck and liner attachments, same with turnout. i also really really want a drirug, but i can’t justify the money so i’m on the lookout for a rambo one second hand. the turnouts she came with will be sold eventually once i’ve replaced them, as will the fleece since i’ve got one with a neck. the fly rug will do until it gets ripped, then i’ll replace with a good quality one.

she doesn’t need an extensive wardrobe and i don’t want rugs everywhere, so the plan is to invest in good quality lightweight ones and buy cheaper liners to fit since they’ll only be used in really extreme weather! she’s been rugged all winter before i bought her hence why she’s still rugged, and i’ll most likely clip her out next year because she’d quite a warm horse. if it wasn’t for that, she’d probably have a stable rug for awful weather, a lightweight turnout to keep her clean and dry for riding, a fly rug and a cooler.

Too many! I think I have developed a rug habit. But tbf they are nearly all in use. All t/o have detachable necks with them
1x no-fill t/o
2x 50g t/o
1x 100g t/o
1x 200g t/o - new and unlikely to be used much as my horse is very warm, despite being fully clipped.

Sweetitch rugs - all Snuggy - 6 necks - 3 with heads, 3 bodies, plus 3 destroyed bodies kept for patching material, though really I only need one.

Stable rugs:
cotton sheet
fleece (don't use that one much & should sell it)
50g stable
2 x 100-200g stable rugs - cheap and about 7th-hand so some of the 'g' has left through washing/age

I don't keep all this at the yard - rugs not in use are stashed at home, clean and in crates.

2 Coolheats for 1 retired pony, used twice a year on average. Can't think where I'd put any more!

You could put them all in a giant plastic clip lock crate that used to house your employer's last exhibition stand. Then it could live in the tackroom. Just saying, that is what one COULD do if one had more rugs than one wished to admit. :D

Not saying I do that though

OMG! What a fantastic idea. I wish I'd liberated ours when we were redoing our stand. But I do have a friend who works for an events company...

Pony has:
1 x Ruggles No Fill (Used to get the most use until the 20g came along, found she gets a bit moist under the no fill)
1 x 20g Mudrug (this one gets the most use since Mudrugs started selling it a few weeks ago, she stays dry as a bone with this one)
1 x 50g Mudrug (left over from another horse, bit heavy for pony's needs unless the weather is really foul)
4 x Rambo Sweetitch Hoodies (two bought for her, at least two from other horses, there may actually be more!).

Turnots: 4 x no fill rain sheets, 2 x 50g one with neck, one without, 2 x 100g, 1 x 200h, 1 x 300g.

3 fly rugs all with rips.

Stable: summer sheet, sweat rug, thermatex, 1 x 50g, 2 x 100g, on with neck onecwithout, 1 x 250g never used.

I use the cooler under the 100g with neck when minus and the summer sheet without neck when its 1-5.

I really hate over rugging, its a horrid thing. I wake in the night gaspingfor air if i get too hot. Mines a hot horse so I have to be careful as I've found him too toasty in the mornings sometimes.

I have two horse - both in 6fts (which is a godsend!). I donated all their stable rugs and just use turn outs for field and stable.

I have:

1 x no fill T/O combo - which really just acts as a stain avoider for the connie, as it's no longer waterproof (probably never was like most 0g T/O's!)
1 x 100g T/O 1/2 neck - my retired welsh wears this when the rain is too relentless to leave him rugless
1 x 200g T/O no neck - my clipped out connie tends to wear this most the winter
1 x 400g T/O full neck - connie wears this when it's super super cold (usually about 3 days a year haha)
1 x thermatex as winter travelling rug/drying rug/warm up sheet/stop the shiver sheet/everything sheet because it's the best thing I own!
1 x lightweight thermatex copy for summer bits
Probably about 3 or 4 old wool newmarket rugs and blankets for anything I need them for
2 cotton sheets just in case - rarely use them barring soaking to cool welsh down in summer
1 x fly sheet for the connie in summer
1 x skrim sheet

I think that's it!

3 horses and a pony...

Each horse has...
- Turnout with liner system, they live in them in the winter, I don't switch to indoor rugs at night.
- Thermatex
- Fly rug
- Half fly rug half waterproof rug

Between the three of them they have a couple of spares of the outer rug incase of an emergency!

Pony has a rain sheet that is only very occasionally worn in August time when he is still in summer coat and the weather turns cold and wet.

ooh now that IS a collection! Might I ask.....what on earth for? I going to guess a hi viz one, a thermal one, a posh one....but then STILL three more?!
.

Well, it does sound lot but surprisingly I do use them all as I mainly hack :D

We have:
A mercury one for our winter hacks in the dark by torchlight
Two thick waterproof wrap hi viz fleece lined sheets for grotty winter weather (1 was a freebie off a friend, otherwise would probably only have 1)
A thinner waterproof high viz sheet for less grotty but still wet weather or dry chilly weather
A mesh high viz sheet for summer
A navy waterproof one for anything not hacking related

Although we have lots of off road hacking we do some roadwork to link routes up and even off road my dark bay pony merges well into woodland, hedges, fields and generally any muddy back drop ( :D ) in the winter and shadows in the summer. I like us both to be visible to dog walkers, cyclists, runners and the emergency services if I ever need them!

Some of your collections do make me feel slightly feel better about the amount of rugs I assembled for the one (1) horse:

Two 0 grs rainsheets
One 100 grs outdoor rug
One 150 grs outdoor rug
One 200 grs liner

Two fleece rugs (never used)
One waterproof exercise sheet (never used)
One hi-viz exercise sheet
One fly-sheet (almost never used)

My daughter used to work in a saddlery shop when she was a student so got all rugs at cost price. Needless to say she bought up big and my retired boy still has rugs galore. I don't even know how many he has.

well…i’m now the proud owner of a rambo dry rug, courtesy of fb marketplace🤣

I mainly hack too and actually....now I think about it....I have a hi viz mesh fly sheet, a waterproof hi viz ride on sheet, a waterproof hi viz quarter sheet, and I'm about to pick up a non hi-viz ride on fleece to keep his newly clipped bum warm. So I will toddle back off to my chest full of rugs and pipe down!

I do have a few rugs, from when I stabled at night and clipped. BUT they haven't been used for over 10 years now, since I moved to my current livery where the ponies are field kept, and are in a chest for a "just in case" situation.
