How much sedalin would you recommend for mild sedation in my 17.2 hh?

I'm having the dentist on Friday and since he went up for the vet when I had him vetted I would like to keep the roof on his stable this time.......Im moving yards and he's already lifted it once......don't want to pay for a new roof and the dentist !
 
Hi, I don't know if you have used Sedalin before, so I will just say that it should be given on an empty stomach, well in advance of EDT arrival and before you make any changes to his usual routine (so adrenalin levels are very low)

I have used Sedalin several times for young Shires (farrier/dentist) and I have given as much as a whole syringe without any ill effects, these youngsters weighed in at 800-900k.

The leaflet inside the box will give guidelines for different levels of sedation, I am assuming you will be needing heavy sedation.

ACP affects horses differently, it is long lasting and a horse can still be very sedated for quite a few hours.

All that said, it may be safer all round to get a vet to give him i/v sedation.

Domesedan is a stronger and some say more reliable oral sedative that you can get from your vet might be worth asking your vet about this one instead tends to keep their feet on the floor better than ACP
 
I have currently Domesadan as the sedolin did not work my current horse. My last horse I mistakenly gave a whole tube of Sedolin and she was out for the count!!! weight about 690KG and was barely able to stand! dito the giving it well in advance!

For a 17.2 I'd use a whole tube but they all take to it differently. G needs IV sedation before he'll let the dentist do his teeth.

I give three 'rings' for my horse who is a 17.1hh M/W WB and weighs in at 700KG. I think that is equivalent to 3 grams of a 10g syringe. But last time I did feel he could maybe have done with a little less. But sedation varies with different horses. My friends mahoosive 18.2hh WB was literally on the floor with that amount yet my horse was fine.

But like others have said ACP is meant to be more effective. I think probably in the region of something like 11-15 tablets from recollection depending on how your horse reacts to sedation.
