I have been helping a friend out by recently riding her horse and also giving her lessons. As this is a good friend I haven't charged her for the help I have given.

However, a lady has approached me who has been watching us for the last few months and has asked whether I would be prepared to help her out and she would pay me, the trouble is I don't know how much to ask? She wants me to ride her horse and iron out a few problems he has which I know I can sort and then she wants me to give her a few lessons.

So the question is, what should I realistically ask for moneywise? I was thinking maybe £5 per ride and maybe £10 a lesson.

Not sure about total amounts to charge but you should probs consider taking out insurance (rider insurance for when you're riding and something extra, others on here will know, for when you're giving lessons) and factor that into the price.

No way! I would charge minimum £20 for 30-45 mins (ie let the lesson take its course rather than end on exactly 30 mins)- that is still a cheap lesson compared to most instructors - £5 is barely worth you getting your hat on for!

You should be able to charge £10-£15 for a lesson with ease....as for riding the horse for the woman well charge the same amount as you will be taking up the same amount of time but this time teaching the horse. ;)
I wouldn't charge more if you haven't got recognised qualifications.

your BE public liability wont be valid as you are doing this for commercial reward therefore you will need commercial liability, 3 c and freelance intructors liability to teach. once you get your costings for this then you can decide what you have to charge. dont forget travelling time and petrol should be costed in as well.

i would check your insurance lets you get paid for what you're doing!

I run a similar thing in our area, I charge £10 a ride and £20 for a lesson (approx 45 mins). I limit the travelling to 20 mins tho otherwise it eats too much into what I'm getting out of it.

Defo charge more I charge £30 for 45 to and hour if they ride when I am in the area and then more if I have to travel
