I want to buy a pony from an auction, native type, 13-13.3hh, 3/4 years old, unbroken. How much should I expect to pay do you think?
I am going to go to an auction before I buy to get an idea of what goes on just wanted to know from those who already go to auctions.

I have not been for a while now, which sale are you going to? JM07 is the person with the best person to ask, as I believe your type of pony is just what she looks for.

It depends on the sale, the type of pony there, the people buying on the day etc - far too many variables to give a really accurate idea. In the summer months you will be considerably more than in the winter months, eg, could have picked up a lovely 13.2hh fully reg NF gelding from Cambridge for £250 in Feb - similar ponies at the moment making over £600. I think you could be looking anywhere from £300 upwards, but it all depends on the pony, and how many people want that pony. Coloured ponies tend to go for £800 upwards. I really only go to Cambridge and Melton Mowbray, so am basing the figures on what I have seen there.

Thanks for your replies. The pony doesnt have to be registered or anything too special, I dont mind a few minor problems or one that looks as though its been dragged off a hill, as long as it is halter broken.

Can anyone recommend sales in the north-west?
