How much should I pay for a Thorowgood High Wither T6 Saddle

Would anyone know how much a 2nd hand Thorowgood High Wither T6 Saddle is worth?

I have seen them on Ebay for £200/£250 but the ones that I have been watching haven't sold, are they worth it?

I haven't ridden in one but they look like they may suit my horse and they are adjustable..... any good or bad reports please? :)
 
I would advise you to get a someone who fits Thorowgoods to come out and see if one would fit him and then buy one off ebay. If it fits, it's worth 200-250. If not, it's a waste of 200-250.

The lady I've used is very good and charges £25 to come and measure up and fit a saddle (no obligation to buy from her but she does do good after-sales service and 6 week re-check).

Incidentally, i think 200-250 is a bit much for a secondhand one unless it's hardly been worn and is immaculate in which case that's an ok price for a piece of kit that will give you so much enjoyment!!
 
Thanks for the reply, I think it seems a bit expensive but I thought I might be being a bit stingy :D

There are not many of these saddles around though, and the ones on Ebay didn't sell for over £200.

I have been reading really good things about them though!

I will get a saddle fitter to fit my next saddle, they just didn't have any of these T6's either!:)
 
they are £450 new so i think £200 is good if in good condition. they are VERY comfortable. i am actually currently selling my leather ideal so that i can get myself another T6.
 
I bought a T4 high wither for £80 on ebay, personally I hate it but it fits the horse so i'm stuck with it. I don't think they are great quality and wouldn't spend much more on one.

I think (although I'm 100% sure) from what I have read the T6 is a lot better than the T4 ...... but this is why it is good to get some feedback on them.

Diggerbez this is what I keep reading - people love riding in them.... are they easy to fit to your horse? I have never come across 'fish' before :confused: :)

my saddler never had a problem with fitting it... horse was quite normal in shape though. my dressage trainer used to call it "divine" to ride in and he was a snob and hated synthetic stuff! i do think the T6 are a lot better than the T4
 
The only difference between the T4 and the T6 I have found is the finish! I much prefer the T4 as the suede type seat is good for keeping your bottom secure in the saddle :)
 
Hi - my saddler advised me that the T4 and T6 are very similar. They are both built off of the same tree system, but the finish is different. Suede for the T4 and leather look for the T6. I was dead set on a T6, but after seeing both on my horse and on his recommendation the T4 seems to be more adjustable. Both can be flocked on top of the gullet system so fit so many horses.
I am in the process of changing my T4 and buying a new Kent & Masters GP saddle. These are again built on the same tree as T4's and T6's.
My advice would be similar to above. Get your saddler to come out and fit one. Like other saddles, one does not fit all. You cannot make any saddle fit any horse - they are all different.
I love mine, i just now want a leather saddle. I am being given £200 part exchange on my new saddle and have to say that for a T4 or T6 in good condition the £200-£250 is a good buy. Mine is nearly two years old and the saddler snapped it up as he sells so many. Where are you based? i could PM you his details, he really is rather good and has a good reputation with Synthetics x
 
i just got a t6 and really like it. im not 100% about it yet as its brand new and i prefer saddles that are worked in a bit more. it cost me 500 euro roughly.
 
Depends entirely on how old the saddle is! The older version of the T4/T6 do NOT have changable gullets and therefore worth a lot less. The design and fit is also slightly different. And sometimes the last Griffins to be made are sold as T4's (similar to look at).

T4, T6 and Kent and masters (and Fairfax) are the same saddle, just made of different materials so it's down to preferance/budget.

A new T4 is about £375, and new T6 £425 so a nearly new second hand one (and they will be to be not much more than a year old to have the changable gullet) sell for about £250 for a T4 and £300 for a T6. Brown are usually a bit more expensive than black as they have to specially made.
 
I have a T6 High wither and before that i had a T4.
They are both ok but really i probably wouldnt buy another if i could find a decent leather saddle that fitted my horse.

I almost preferred the T4, not sure why though. The t6 certainly looks much better and lots of people tell me what a nice saddle i have and are surprised that its synthetic. I personally just dont feel 100% secure for some reason.

They are both very light weight and easy to clean and the fact they are adjustable has been a god send for my horse who has been in and out of work endless times!
 
Hiya I have had both and think they're fab!

I'm selling an almost new t6 (not listed on ebay lol) and am asking £200 ono for it- I paid £455! So depending on the condition I think £200 is reasonable- what I'd advise though is pics from all angles before buying inc close up ones as I've been had and I know others have too buying 2nd hand thorowgoods off ebay!!

Both my horses have these saddles and the 1 will always have them as he's been in them for 10years now and 'touch wood' has always been fine, even with back checks etc.
My youngster has a t4 to start off with because its so adjustable and light.

So I'd say go for it!! :)
 
Really interested in this thread as I am about to list my Thorogood on ebay and it's been great to do my market research so easily! Looks as though the market might be a bit regional, though.

Sorry, not true.

New, they are now £499 RRP, so a good condition one of newer build is a good rpice at £200 - £250.

Look out for the new T8 though!

Sorry, meant second hand brown are usually more expensive, as they are rarer. New they are the same price, but you usually need to order them and at one point that had a 4week waiting list.

Off to investigate the T8...... (what happened to the T7?)
 
I think thats not a bad price for second hand. I paid over £400 for my T6 and used it for about a week! I'm trying to sell it for £300 but no-ones buying anything at the moment, I watched the others on ebay aswell. I found mine too big(reason I'm selling) and they only start at 17"- being 5ft 1 I usually take a 15"-16". Other than that I reckon if it fitted correctly it would be a comfy saddle.
