Hello,

Am looking at moving livery yards and would like to investigate the option of getting my horse ridden in the week to get her fitness up. Could anyone give me an idea of how much i should expect to pay for this?

Thank you!

For liveries we charge £8/ride if it's one of our (very capable) staff or £15 if it's the YO (very experienced eventer)

Where abouts are you Boss? I'm in the South and if I'm working away for the week, they charge me £20 for someone to ride

i'm in the south, I charge £10 if the horse comes to us to with the horse turned out and ridden for an hour a day. If I go to a horse locally its £15 per hour, £12 per day if its for more than 3 consecutive days.

Am i reading this correct...you actually pay for someone to ride your horse???

Sorry about dumb question if i have read it right...just by me it is usually the other way around and people pay at the yards to ride someone elses horse or the do it for free. But to have to pay someone to exercise it, surely there is someone at good enough quality who would pay/ ride for free for you.

I sometimes pay someone to school mine for me or work to get him fit when I am not able to ride weekdays myself. She is a fully insured professional, and available during the day, Mon to Fri.

Most riders who would ride for free or in return for help are at work, I or they would have to take out insurance, and they may not want to ride at the times or to the work requirements needed.

n a yard who employ grooms to exercise - butonly a part livery, would expect to pay £10 an hour if they are already on the yard. After all, an hours exercise would have getting ready, putting away, or turning back out, etc and take mroe than an hour of staff time. Twice that for experienced comeption rider to school him.

So is it just me who would happily jump on a horses back and ride it for nothing? As have been riding a youngster for lady on yard...am not being paid or nothing. I just love riding him and she doesnt have the time really herself so when she asked me i just jumped for the chance to get back into riding.

Amy - you are assuming that other people will actually VOLUNTARILY get on your horse!!!! Mine has in the past been, er... a bit 'quirky' and I got told by 3 pro riders (one of whom is extremely high up in the dressage world) that they wouldn't get on him "for 100 quid", so I'm quite short of willing volunteers to ride for free! Even the one time I asked the yard to exercise him for me whilst I was working away all week, they drew straws!!

He's awesome now, I don't know what their problem is. I think he just has a niche market

Almost anyone who rides well enough to school a horse will require paying for their time.
