as contribution to petrol costs from someone wanting a lift in the lorry? The venue is only 10/15 minutes away, but we would be waiting for her as her classes are after me.
any ideas?
thanks!
No we definately wouldn't charge for the wait, it just could be a bit of a pain if her classes are much later. Thing is, we don't really know what it would cost for a 2 horse lorry to get there, as it's our first box!
That's probably the best way to do it though - I just need to get my calculator out I guess! thank you.
Unless you are already aware & are covered I would not be discussing charges due to the following;
DEFRA, are primarily responsible for integrating the new rules into the UK equestrian and agricultural world and the law will demand that anyone transporting two or more horses, for profit or gain, must apply for an Authorisation Certificate.
DEFRA it appears may be taking a slightly softer position compared to that of the Vehicle & Operators Service Agency (VOSA).
VOSA has recently declared that anybody operating a horsebox, that has received a financial reward at an equestrian event, could be liable to prosecution if they do not hold a valid operators licence.
As bizarre as it sounds, if you own a horsebox over 3.5 tonnes and you happen to be successful at any equestrian event where you may collect prize money as part of your spoils, then you must have a Licence to Operate, regardless of how much your winnings are for.
I am sure that you are covered by the above & your insurance.
You can only ask for a contribution towards diesel costs other wise you are working for hire and reward. I would have thought £10 would be more than your total diesel cost even with the price these days!
