How much should you hear/expect from an owner when you have their horse on full loan?

Before we bought our 2, I had a horse on full loan. We kept him at the yard he'd been at for 6-7yrs, and owner would occasionally pop up, say hello and see how we were getting on. I also let her have the odd plod along on him when she did come visiting - and she'd always come laden with gifts!

I'd want little involvement. Forvwhatvetbreason the horse is on loan, I'd be grateful but I wouldn't want much contact. The point is surely that you temporarily 'own' the horse and can do as you please?

That's what I did. I saw her to sign the contract tHen once more when she came to see the girl I was loaning with cos she was a friend.

Saying that, I considered it recently and thought it through and couldn't do it: id annoy the crap out of any poor loaner checking up!

We have had our horse for three and a half years now and his owner has visited once. We get a text from her around once a year. However, when we got him he couldn't even walk in a straight line, despite being 12! So I don't think she ever really did anything with him.

Personally, if it was my horse I would want to know what they were up to and an occassional visit, more often than once every three years anyway!
