How much so you put your stirrups up for jumping?

As title really. I put mine up 3 holes and this feels like quite a substantial change but my instructor has told me to put them up more

Just wondering what the norm is really! :)

Good question. I put mine up one to two holes. It's not enough but any more and my knees are off the knee rolls. I think I have stuffed up with the type of saddle I bought :(

Daughter says she puts hers up 2 for jumping (from flatwork) & maybe an extra hole up when the fences get big in a puissance (1.20m upwards). Always 3 for xc xx

Hi,
It is not the holes in the leathers which dictate how much the stirrups go up....but closing the angle between the hip and the heel which should dictate this.

Best wishes

Well I normally stick them up three but RI stuck them up 6 today!! Needless to say I havent ridden that short since the racing days  felt rather weird to be jumping with my knees up my nostrils :D

Ten holes.

I ride long for dressage and take M&S long trousers. I ride short to jump, I find it safer to have my leg in front of me and easier to fold when it is.

I normally ride in very short stirrups! I don't tend to change my stirrups apart from xc

Although I had a flat lesson today and dropped them 3 holes which by the end felt better

I'm guessing those of you that massively change the lengths of your stirrups have different saddles for dressage and jumping?

Yes, I'm lucky enough to be able to have two saddles for each horse that jumps. I hack in dressage saddles but I couldn't even jump in a GP, my knees are off the front of the flaps :D

Used to be 3 for jumping but I found I was losing them occasionally and struggled to find them again at that length, so for now its 2, sometimes only just 1. Still seem to be able to lift/tilt as much as I need to.

That's what I was thinking, if you wack your stirrups up that much your knees must be out the front of the saddle if you didn't have different saddles!

Just 2 for me. My saddle is a VSD so pushing it to go much shorter.
Read somewhere that Mary King rides 7 holes shorter between dressage and XC. I can't ride that short BUT I do go around XC courses saying "I am Mary King, I AM Mary King". One day maybe I'll ride just a bit like her!

I have a dr saddle and a VSD. I sometimes school in the VSD, and that's where I take my 8 hole change from. I ride longer in my dressage saddle though. And due to my ridiculously long hip-knee distance, yes my knees do end up over the front of my VSD, but I doubt I could get a jumping saddle to fit him easily...
