hiya im waiting for my vet to ring me back re: my mare who has a tendon injury, 6months ago vet said a tendon scan would be a useful thing to do so ive decided to have one done. im not sure what kind of scan she needs but can anyone give me a rough estimate please? I think he said £150 ish originally Thanks

I had mine done about three weeks ago and haven't had the bill yet! aargh! but, I was informed by a nice instructor that they are really reasonable, (less than xrays) prob around £40-£50 plus call out, like AmyMay said.

The vet came out and brought it as a portable machine, shaved the tendon area and put gel on it, (just like an ante-natal scan) horse didn't get drugged, the whole thing comes in a big, soft box/carrier and it has a kind of lap-top screen.

oh great i was expecting alot more! however i take what my vets say with a pinch of salt, when she was hospitalised for a week the quote was £50 a day... turned out to be £75 plus vat!

Ours cost around 80GBP if the vet comes to us, or 50 if we take the horse to them.

We usually take ours there as the scanner at the practice is better than the portable one, unless we have a severe injury and don't want to travel the horse.

My vets charge £130 for a scan at the vets, not including sedation.

In fact I've just paid £130 (twice!!!) for two separate days of scannings, plus my mare had two lots of sedation the first time and then three lots of sedation the second which was of course extra...

Add to that x-rays and we are currently running at nearly £600 and lots more scans to come

Im round the £400 mark for tendon. My next bill is going to be £3000 for hock surgery I hope the insurance company cough up.
