I have recently downsized and now own only one 15.2 horse. I've been thinking a lot about the cost of running two vehicles and should I or not sell my lorry and my car and get a 4x4 and a HB505 trailer.

Last night a lady at my livery yard asked me if I would consider selling and how much did I want for it so I'm asking all you efficionados what do you think.

Its a Renault Dodge Peper Harow conversion. Its mechanically very sound and doesnt need plating untill next march. Its almost 20 yrs old but has only done just under 60,000 miles. It takes 2 x 17.h front facing has tack locker on the back and living. It gets used regularly but doesnt go very far so has had an easy life for the past 4 years since I bought it for £10,000.

The guy that maintains it for me says its "a grand lorry that drives really well" lol.

I would appreciate any advice.

we take in part x's and on one that age would prob give you about £1000 - 1500 ...... on ebay you would be lucky to get £2000

There was one on horse and hound for sale a couple of months ago 2/3 years younger than mine but with 110,000 more miles on the clock and that was being advertised for £8,995 plus VAT so I think 1000-1500 might be a bit below what I was thinking. I did think 9 grand plus VAT was very excessive but I didnt think my lorry had depreciated by £8000 in 4 years.

I've been looking for a new lorry and one your age and mileage I think you'll be very lucky to get £2500 for it. To be honest we're getting a much younger vehicle made up to our own spec for only £4k inc full MOT.

I wish I could have put pics on here but then I would prob get my backside kicked for advertising which I'm definately not.

Its actually a five and a half ton lorry in excellent condition with mega low mileage, living, cooker fridge etc etc bodywork is spot on as are all the mechanical parts, my lorry man says minimum £5,500 so I'm surprised at quotes of around 1000-1500-2500 quid.

Oh dear, never mind, I'd better keep it.

It really does depend how smart it looks sadly - if its got a decent payload and looks smart you probably will get 4500+ for it - if paintwork etc looks shabby people will be much more aware of the age and won't pay as much! Why not just offer it to the interested party at a price you wiuld be happy with, and if the are keen, great, if not, keep it?

I bought a horsebox last year a 10 year old just under 7.5tn, fits three 16.2 horses (although won't carry them all on that tonnage), good service history, day iving with cooker, toliet tack locker ect, it is Daf and I paid £5,000 for that. I took it for its MOT this year and my lorry guy and he said it was one of the best lorries of that age he had seen and woud estitamte I could still get between £4,000 and £5,000 for it. So TBH I wouldn't pay anything more than £2500 for yours sorry, others may well be advertised for lots more money but are they selling at price thats the big question.

Nativeponies - depends what it weighs empty surely?
Honestly I think prices vary HUGELY!
IIRC yours is a peper harrow OP? The 'name' seems to add value
As an example I bought last year a 1995 Merc 7.5t, unladen is 5.2t so legally takes 3, very basic and small living, no cut through and not the smartest inside. We paid £5500. Mechanically its fab and the fact I can take all three horses helps a lot. Friends of mine two years ago paid £17000 for a 1995 iveco much smarter externally, better living, cut through cab, new paint job. So I don't think anyone can really comment on what the lorry in question is worth without seeing it.
I also SOLD my 1984 so 25 year old bedford 2 horse last year for £3000....again no cut through, mechanically sound but had some impressive rust developing and was looking pretty tired, so can't see this newer one in original post being worth less than that? Some people love the 5.5t if they are quite small and easy to drive.

Sorry OP but im about to buy a 7.5t with full living overnight living, space for 3 16.2's, a big enough payload to carry them all, younger than your wagon but with roughly same mileage for £3500

Theres one on the Peper Harrow website that looks much older and much more tired than mine and its up for about 8 grand maybe more.

Is that the K reg green one at £8,500... I wouldn't pay that price for that one either, there better bargains than that out there IMHO.

If you want £8000 for it then just say to this friend thats how much you want, don't ask you don't get i suppose.
