How much to charge for sharer

Evening all :)

Can someone tell me what's the going rate for a sharer?

Say 2/3 days a wk (including weekend if wanted) no stable duties only poo pick on your own days. Yard has small sand school and large jumping / schooling paddock, horse has brakes, jumps quietly but sometimes not keen on hacking alone, however others available to hack out with on yard including myself. Genuine nice horse :)

Oh and where do I find said sharer ? I've never done this before..

We pay £80 pcm for pretty much unlimited access, but technically its a part loan as we can't get to him every day. No extra costs, no menege, fab hacking. We are expected to do yard chores when we are there. We found him on preloved. Hope that helps :)
 
£15-£20 a week depending on facilities. My sharer has full use of my horse at the moment as I'm pregnant, so it's more like a full loan. Once I'm riding again I'll prob only manage twice a week so she can do what she likes with him at other times.
Yard costs £30 pw so with shoeing and insurance she pays just under half his costs at £20 a week.
I used to pay £20 a week when I shared 5 days a week, so I reckon that's fair.

I am gobsmacked with some of the prices

£ 15 per week for 3 rides.

£ 5 per ride sheesh

maybe i should sell up and be a sharer lot cheaper...............

Having bought my share horse a month ago, it was definitely a lot cheaper! So far, dentist, farrier, chiropractor, saddler... and I could go on. I used to pay £70 per month... seem to manage to spend that in a day now :-).
 
Well I reckon 3 days a week. My daughter is getting another horse but doesn't want to give up current one. I currently pay £15 a week grass livery. So thought £20 a week would be about right.

Hmm.. I've never done this before so really not got a clue ...
 
£20 per week for three times would be the average. I'd expect to pay more if stabled. other thing is will you let them conpete as that will make a difference. Hope you find a good sharer. I think the BHS does draft agreements.

no payment for shoes

personally for the £ 15 per week for 3 rides, I would not bother sharing my horse 15 would go very little towards keep/ insurance/ risk on the rds shoeing etc. Also lighting in the school if she schooled the 3 days a week she would be using more than £ 15 for electricity . Hey ho.........................

Depends why you want a sharer,
if you want it for the money then £20-£25 a week depending on the area,
if you want it for the help/time etc then you could charge less for the right person..

When I started my share it was £15 a day, so I could only afford to do 1 day a week, however I am always invited up for extra days, to watch lessons or we all have a little ride :)
 
We have an amazing deal.

Taylor can ride whenever she wants, cleaning,shows,hacks ect for £10pw. Although I'm going to give her abit more as the pony is worth so much more!
 
I've recently found a sharer for my pony (new liveries to the yard have a keen daughter, typical after months of looking one moves onto the yard :p) Though we are calling it part loan as she wants to be the only other person looking after her which is fair :)
They are going to pay £20 a month which involves the girl helping with chores like feeding and poo picking etc, and in return she gets to ride 4 times a week and once she's more competent she can ride when I'm not there! She's 12 and very new to horses though hence why she can't ride her alone just yet.
 
I think it does depend on the horse!

I have just got a sharer for my PRE Andalusian but it has taken 7 months to find someone for him, as he is not easy. I am not even charging her, as should probably be the other way round LOL :rolleyes:
 
I think it depends on the horse and facilities available. When I had a sharer she paid 25-30 per week but could come as often as she liked. I had another horse who I was working with so tbh it suited me fine to have someone to hack etc with!
 
I've had a few sharers for my boy, and I charged £10 a day for him. They only visited him once a day (he was turned out every morning for me by his field buddies owner) but they mucked out, sorted evening feed and haynet, did a barrow of poopicking, groomed and rode. We had a jumping field, indoor and outdoor school and good hacking :)
I think it just depends what level of care/riding the sharer can give and what you are after
 
My sharer pays £25 a week for unlimited access to a naughty pony who only really schools :o in reality shemonly rides about twice a week, but comes up almost daily to fuss/do chores (she doesn't have to chores). Yard has good facilities but pony hates schooling and sharer doesn't jump.

Price was my mums idea and sharer is happy to pay it.

Think i found a good one!
 
I used to pay £60 per month for 3 days a week (that included 1 weekend day). She was an older horse that did a bit of everything. I had access to hours of off road hacking and a small sand school. I also did poo picking and paid half of the price for her shoes every time they were done.

Later on we agreed I would have her full time and paid £80 a month but also got more involved in chores.

Really? Maybe I am just completely missing the idea behind a sharer!
A few years ago I used to earn my pocket money riding out for people who didn't have time to ride five times a week. I was paid £10 every time I rode a horse, covered my time and my petrol. So is a sharer basically doing jobs that I used to do, ie riding and poo picking, but then being charged for it?! If so I could do with a few "sharers"!
 
For me the "idea behind a sharer" is to help keep my horse fit as i struggle to ride more than 4 days a week. If sharer rides 2 then she is worked 6 which is great as she is good doer.

This also gives me a day off to do other stuff and I ask for a small contribution which covers shoes and wormers.

I don't expect my sharer to pay 2/7 of the cost as I would have to pay for the horse regardless.
