Would you insure him for what you paid? Or if you feel you paid less than he is worth would you up it? Or do you need a recipt and proof of what you paid?

I shopped around when my youngster was 6 months and i needed to get him insured- i just insured him for cost price and Vets fees only- i would not up the horses value unless i didn't mind paying more money for his insurance.

I wasn't asked for any receipts or anything.

I only insure for £1000 for death by accident, illness and disease as I reckon I can replace with that if something happens and I don't lose all my stud expenses getting the foal in the first place; it costs about £65 yearly. Public liability I have through BHS Gold membership as it covers all my horses, not just the one, it's well worth the £50+ fee IMHO. I don't do vet cover with so many but if I only had the one, I would. If you have a very expensive animal then they'd need proof of value but for a modest amount they don't (KBIS I'm with) Shop around for policies but I'm more than happy with KBIS, been with them for years and when I've had to claim, they've always been very helpful and paid out quickly; I don't if that's because mine are bargain basement simple policies or not but I appreciate their attitude anyway.
PS: if born here, they're insured from 30 days old, knowing their propensity for getting into trouble, I'm on tenterhooks until then!
