Hi, My horse has gone lame (just in time, god forbid I should be able to take him to my first BE event!). I want to pay my YO for putting cold wraps on him a few times a day but not sure what the going rate is for stuff like that. One mate says I am on full livery and shouldn't have to pay and I think it is extra?

What do you guys pay if anything (full livery people or yard owners)?

Thanks in advance :)

At my friend's yard they will do basic first aid, but anything that takes more time, such as hosing or tubbing for 20mins is charged for - as it does take time up when she could be teaching etc. I would expect that your yard would already have an amount in mind - probably an hourly rate, such as £8/hr... I would discuss it with them perhaps, they may do it for nothing if its only going to be for a day or so, in which case a bottle of wine and choccies are not out of order...

If it's on full livery it should be included IMO and that's what I used to do; it's just part and parcel of looking after that horse - but a thank you at the end or possibly a bottle/choc's each week it takes wouldn't come amiss.
