Hope you can help! Have trawled old messages about how much people pay for holiday cover. People seem to think about a tenner an hour but d'you pay the same for a teen to do it for you? I don't mind what I pay (within reason!) as without her I couldn't go on holiday - but I don't want her parents thinking I'm either tight or overgenerous!

It's basically to check on 2 ponies once a day, apply fly spray if needed, and poo pick a one-acre paddock. How much would you pay for that?

Like I say, I want to get it right as she's fab & is my route to a few days off each year :)

We pay a teenager £10 for her to come up, turn horses out, muck out, do haynets and waters, plus skip out and feed the hens. She is 17. When she is 18 we will raise it to £15. I guess we could have paid less, but like your young lady, she is lovely, has never let us down in two years. Our previous teenager that worked for us was the same.

I guess it depends on how long it will take her to poo pick. I would say at least £7/day to make it worthwhile, I would probably still pay £10 to our girl even if they were out and she only had to poo pick (have done this in previous years when they were living out more - wanted to keep her working for us as I knew we would need her more in winter again..).

I dont think age comes into it but more what its worth to you. going back 20years i paid a girl £50 a week to check 2 ponies an poo pick an acre and check for ragwort(and give pet sheep annie a cuddle) no travelling for her as round corner but meant we went on holiday. Worth every penny in my eyes:)

Well it takes me 20 minutes to feed my two, fly spray and poo pick the field this time of year when out 24/7 so i would say £10 a day to do that to make it worth their while would be fair.

I was paid £100 for the week to go twice a day (2 horses, 2 ponies), in morning I would do feeds, poo pick paddock, clean/fill water buckets, check over/groom/see to shetlands sweet itch etc. In evening I would check over again and let ponies out. max was 3 hours a day, and I was 17

I paid £10 a day to a teenager to check two ponies and poo pick last year. This year I am paying £15 a day as it also involves giving meds by syringe. Pony is very good to take meds but have asked a capeable adult this year.

Depends what sort of teenager tbh! Pocket money aged, walking/ cycling distance- £15/ day probably, as you're not asking much of her, and there's not exactly many horses. That's an hour's work, maximum...
