Apologies if this is in the wrong place.

Just wondering what the going rate is to pay someone to poo pick or muck out etc.

I am on DIY with no services avaliable and just looking for some extra help as my job has changed. I can manage but if i had to choose between chores and playing with the pony bit of a no-brainer really.

Just an idea at this stage but interested to see if any of you do it and if so how much you pay?

depends on how many horses and how big field what i do is my livery dee poss the paddock ( 2 ponies and donkey) at weekends and i do week days as 2 are mine. i charge 4 per day 1 field of about under acre

If its just one horse to muck out daily and poo pick probably £5-6 a day if its an hours work. If it would suit someone local who can get there easily(Winter after school in dark etc). I poo pick myhorse every day and to visit and check the fence/him/ poo pick the field takes about half hour or less(so add on the stable half hour). In the winter would be more time ie frozen water etc etc

Wouldn't it be basic wage? Depending on age of 'poo picker' !

I just didn't know what the basic wage was. There is a 13yr old that said she wanted to earn mony for her own pony. Just considering it at the moment but just wondered what others thought a fair wage was. It may be that i could only afford to do it every now and then.

I used to poo pick in exchange for my lesson from my RI when I was a teenager. One horse, in at night, out in the day. One week's worth = one lesson :D

In terms of actual money though, clueless. Sorry.

for one decent sized paddock I am charged £1.50 per pony per day. So £3 for my two. It takes 10 minutes to poo pick their paddock in summer and 30 minutes when snow on ground and frozen.

Presuming she's at your yard and therefore going to be there already, I'd work it out on the basis of about £5/6 for an hour's work, and work out how long it takes on a daily basis.

So if its a 10/15 minute job then about £1.50 is about right. If its closer to half an hour then maybe £2-3.

12yr old in our village charges £1 per barrow of poo - she's stuck notices up all over the place & is very popular! :D

I would give her the chance to earn some proper money!!!

Poo pick the field yourself, work out how many barrows and how long it takes you if you do it quickly and efficiently.

Work out how much it would cost if you paid yourself say £8/hour and then offer her that? Then its up to her whether she wants to take ages over it and have a lower rate of pay or really get stuck in and earn a decent rate!

I pay £5 a day to a retired man to poo pick my fields with 2 horses. I would say it takes him less than half an hour, but he has about a 10 minute car journey each way as well.

Does it make a difference where your muck heap is though as mine is qite a way from the paddock and the ground is rough too.

Im looking after a couple of horses at the moment, Im paid £10 a day. I spend 30 mins in the morning feeding, haying and poo picking the field and stables, and 10 mins in the afternoon haying and transferring the contents of the barrow into plastic sacks. I have a 2 minute drive from my yard to theirs.

I would ask myself how much I would want to be paid for such jobs? I muck out, turnout, bring in, do haynets and feeds for £8.50 per day. Poo picking is £10 per hour as its back breaking work! (plus people dont want to pay me a fortune so they do it themselfs haha)
