Am looking at a trailer to buy, which has a wooden floor. Although the wooden floor has just been newly fitted, at some point I would like to put in an Aluminuim floor. How much will this cost, as I will need to take this into account when looking!

Thanks!

don't do it.

stick to the wooden floor IMO. yes it makes it a heavier trailer, but we've had more problems with aluminium floors in trailers than we've ever had with wooden floors.

we had an aluminium floor disintegrate under a pony (sec a, so not even a big pony!) terrifiying her and 7y.o me! and the replacement floor was just as poor. in the end my dad put a new wooden floor in the trailer and in 20 years we've replaced it 3 times and never had a problem with it.

people go on about them rotting easier, but it's only a case of keeping them clean and regularly disinfecting them to keep the rot out.

And the wooden floor makes it a quieter ride for the horse.

I got a local blacksmith (very old fashioned, couldn't understand a word he said but does all the farm stuff next door) to put an aluminium floor in my IW510. It cost £400. He left the wooden floor in which was sound apart from one small bit at the side which he cut out. The aluminium is bolted in to the frame so that it 'floats' over the wood. All very complicated. So basically, I have 2 floors in mine!! He said normally the wooden floor would be ripped out but it was in good condition so would have been a waste. IW quoted £650.

dont bother. if its a proper wooden floor which has two layers of wood one lying across the trailer and the other lying along the trailer and it is slated then if a bit of the wood starts to rot you can just get the peices replaced that are needed. keep it clean and tidy it should last ages.

its also a better ride for the horse as well as being cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter
