i am planning on selling my ex racer tb but have never sold a horse so dont know what price to put, as i know people will knock 100-200 off when they offer.

he is a 16h 8yr old bay gelding, can walk and trot in an outline but his canter is a little fast/unbalanced not strong, he just speeds up a bit to balance himself. he can jump small fences but i havnt tried going higher as he hasnt been jumping that long, he would come with a t6 thorowgood saddle 3 month old, he is fine to hack and is an angel on the ground

any idea of what to price him as would be very helpful! thanks!

Lol! People in glass houses and all that!

I think £2k would be a huge amount, sorry! Have a look at ads around for the same type of horse. Type TB, the age and height into an online equestrian site and see what comes up that sounds similar...

I would prob try to sell for £1500 - £2000. There are buyers out there! I have just sold my tb for that price without tack or rugs! Had loads of phone calls!!
Also don't be knocked down on price if you don't want to be! I didn't negotiate at all! Was happy to keep him so if they wouldn't pay the asking price no sale! Stick to your guns!

I put a deposit on a mare- very similar to yours- I bought her for £500- she was 8 years old, 15.3 and came with 4 various rugs- also easy in every respect. No one wants to buy at the moment

For me it would depend on conformation, temperament and paces. If it has good conformation, clean limbs and paces which for me would show dressage potential, along with a good temperament and good in traffic I would pay up to £2000. However otherwise, probably around £1200......it's impossible really to say without seeing the horse.....only you know what it is capable of..those saying there are TBs out there for £500 are right - what they look like and move like is often another matter......

I agree with Rebelzmum.

I paid 2.5k for my TB, he was a 4yr old ex racer who had done basic schooling and one showing show. He was easy to handle.
HOWEVER he is a good type of TB, built uphill with excellent paces, confo, jump and attitude. He can more than hold his own with a classy WB or ISH and would be worth a lot more if he wasn't a TB. He went out 3 months after I got him and was placed BD.

You know what your horse is like and if he has the quality to affilliate BD/BSJA/BE I would ask 2-3k. If he is a bit of a herring gutted, downhill TB capabale of low level RC I would sell him for between £800 and £1200.

Hope that helps :)

I feel im fairly experienced in this field.
I have sold a few this yr the last one being on wed. To sell now at this time of yr the horse needs to be sensibly priced.
I would say in all honesty the type of horse your offering with the experience it has i would be asking £1250 quid and sell your tack seperate. I sold a lovely 4 yr old last month similar schooling to yours and with huge jumping abitily. I advertised him open to offers around £1500 and someone came the next day with a trailer and brought him, we settled on £1250 (Not a dealer by the way They were travelling a long way so didnt want to make the journey twice if they liked him and for that price he wasnt going to be vetted )

Good luck i hope you find him a good home

I wouldnt give more than 500 pound for a TB in this climate and time of year...they are giving them away 2 for the penny at the mo!!
