I am debating whether or not to look for a sharer for one of my horses as I just don't have as much time or money as I used to

So I am thinking about (possibly, haven't decided for definate yet), letting someone ride my anglo-arab 3-4 times a week including at least one weekend day, possibly both (I work most of weekend anyway so would be helping me), and the other times being evenings. He is a good allrounder so they could basically do what they want with him, hack, school, jump etc. They'd need to bring him in/turn him out when they were there but I'd still do most of the looking after. The yard he's on has good facilities, schools, jumps etc. I'd also be happy for them to take him to competitions if they wanted (if they could get there! I have no transport at the moment). Do you think this sounds fair? And how much should I ask? He is on DIY. Any advice appreciated.

i dont charge Embob_4 to ride mine atleast once a week

and compete him occasionally

But we are friends and she is doing me a favour vise versa... so i dont see why you shouldnt charge ?
How much is your livery and general looking after fees for the horse? you could ask a proportion of that or less with chores aswell?

For an idea....

Maggie is on full livery approx £550 per month

I pay £180 per month and ride her 3-4 times a week. We also go to competitions etc. I would not pay anymore than £200.

I can ride when ever i like, get the horse brought in (if i'm feeling very lazy!) etc.

But i know some people on here would think thats alot... but compared to her full livery price i think its a fair deal!

When I was sharing Ellie I paid £110 a month and had unlimited riding Monday to Friday and the opportunity to compete on her at weekends too. But that was mainly due to her age I think. I pay £10 per ride now so I'm saving money as I tend to ride just once a week at the moment as Ellie has a new sharer

I didn't pay anything for my previous share horse. I was able to ride whenever i wanted too. I have just started a new share and will be paying £20 per week. IMO, this isn't bad at all, if i wanted a hack at the riding school across the road from them, you would be looking at atleast £20 just for one ride, whereas i will be able to get in 3 or 4 hopefully.

I have a sharer for my girl and she pays (which was agreed before she started) £86 PCM and she rides generally twice a week - sometimes more if i dont have time and she wants an extra ride and competes when shows are local. She doesnt HAVE to do any chores apart from bring her in and give her dinner, but she often volunteers(very nice).

I worked on the basis that she costs me £10 a day for her general everyday costs but obviously am a little bit flexible to the number of days she rides in a month - as there are times when she cant ride (due to the horse self harming on a screw she has pus in the foot!!!!) But will always make sure she rides at least (if not more) than 9 times in a month for her moneys worth.

Thanks guys. I was thinking maybe £25 a week. My livery is £40 a week but then he also needs hay, straw, feed shoes etc. Basically they'd just be paying to ride him, I'd still do most of the chores, though if they wanted to help wiht looking after him I'd be happy to charge them a bit less.

I think 25 a week sounds about spot on for what your offering.
But with this recession, and depending on how much you want the help time wise maybe drop to 15-20p/wk
