I would guess about the same as transporting from the Republic to England - about 300 euro/£250 - maybe a bit more for the extra care of the foal
All these guys regularly go to the English/Scottish/Welsh ports

its a mare and foal i am selling. buyer has not said where in scotland he is from, but he is coming over this weekend to go to shows and sales and is interested in my mare and foal. but said would i lower price as he is taking to scotland. the price is a absolute bargain for a mare infoal and foal at foot, both with full top breeding books. i am not prepared to take anyless as 1/3 the price i would normally sell because of market, just wanted to know prices roughly, i sold one last year to scotland but buyer didnt said how much as i didnt ask was just interested in selling. but this man is taking his own jeep and trailer or lorry not sure, so it will be just him self. not a actually transporter. its really boat fare roughly i want to know, just curious really. thanks for answers
ok well if he was to transport himself then it would be cheaper than what I paid.
At the time of moving my horses, I also moved house, I took at 7.5t lorry on the boat and it was £175.00 each way, plus diesel of about 100 each way, so it wasn't that much cheaper than transporting my horses. I should imagine if using a lorry it would be similar costs, if a jeep and trailer, the ferry costs would be about the same as they go by length, and fuel wouldn't be much cheaper.
I'd reckon whether, trailer, lorry or a professional transporter, you'd be still looking around the 500 mark and rising x
If you find out where in Scotland, you could probably work it out to about 50 quid either way.
I'm sure many could tell you how many mpg a 7.5t horse box does, or jeep and trailer, or 3.5T - it doesn't vary that greatly.
P&O ferries can tell you cost of crossing, going by length of vehicle, again most 4x4 with trailers will be rougly same as are most 7.5T lorries.
At least you will then know what you're negotiating with if this person likes your mare and foal, and you can't be hood winked with ridiculous figures x
he is from SELKIRK , SCOTLAND .
i am from northern ireland, co.down. mare infoal and filly foal at foot is £1750 a bargain, i have said least i will take is £1650 and it is. dont want to say much about it as dont want fourm deleteing thread. but amazing breeding and full books. i normally would get £3000 for mare on a bad day and £1500 for foal. but as we all know market is crap. thats the least i could take any day of week, as mare is great and dont mind keeping amazing broodmare.
thanks
