Hi, Can anyone tell me how much tumeric I should feed my arthritic shetland pony. I have read good reports on it but cant seem to find the correct dosage. I have just started using it and have given her a teaspoon a day in her food, which she seems to like. Thanks x

Guidleline I'm using is 15-30 ml per day for a 500 kg horse so 3 - 6 mL per 100 kg of bodyweight.

So, guessing that a Shetland weighs around 200 kg (?), 6- 12 mL per day :)

I feed my Arab a Slimfast scoop (about a tablespoon).

I'd say for a Shetty - around a teaspoon. I don't think you can overdose on it.

Although she may turn yellow???

I've bought some turmeric from Ebay the other day. Only 90grams just to see if my horse would eat it. Do your horses eat it willing?

I am giving it to two aged shetlands and they both seem to love it. They certainly don't leave any. In fact the gelding (Paddy) washes the pots, as I call it, he licks every inch of the bowls. The arthritic mare (Maizie) eats it all willingly and she can be a bit fussey ever since she started having medication in her feed. She thinks we are trying to poisen her. She has cushings too. I am going to stick with a teaspoon a day and see what happens. If I don't see an improvement on a teaspoon I will up it. Maizie is already a bit yellow as she is golden dun ;) Thanks for all your replies.
