How much turnout/exercise are you managing?

Mine is out from 7am til about 2pm and I ride both Sat and Sun, have been trying to ride for half an hour after work a couple of times a week. We have outdoor schools that are holding up quite well in the weather. However, I've just arranged for a very capable rider to ride her a couple o times a week during the day as I'm really not doing enough as she is only 6 and I am hoping to start taking her to shows in the spring. I did really want to do it all myself but I have to be realistic and do what is best for my horse...
 
My boy goes out with his best pal for about 3hours everyday. The field is boggy by the gate but not too bad further up, but very little grass and they seem very happy to come in at lunch time to dry stables and hay nets. He goes on the walker 2- 3 times a week and is ridden 4-5 times a week, either hacks on local lanes (all off road riding is totally bogged) or schooled or lunged either in outdoor school or indoors. Doing pretty well all things considered.
 
I'm super lucky this year our field is standing up, heaps of grass at the moment (strip grazed so new grass each day) and does 6 40min to an hour long sessions a week, 4 nights in the arena in the dark at night, then one hack and one trip to the gallops. Plus when he comes in he can free range in and out of his stable onto an outside bit of hard standing, with hay split into three feeds across the evening. I'm really pleased we made the effort to create the hard standing and dig some drains over the summer!
 
my boy is out 6.30 til 5.30 most days. We have great hacking and an arena so there's no excuses for lack of exercise! Altho with the weather and other commitments, this last few weeks hasn't been as full of riding as it should have been! My boy lets me know when he's bored! Roll on lighter nights we say :)
 
My boy is getting 4hours out. He is coping very well with this routine it's long enough for him to stretch his legs and play with his field mates but not to long to get hungry. He comes in at 12 and is being ridden 6 days a week. He looks the best he has over a winter.
 
As ours are at home and we all work, they get chucked out before 7am and brought in between 6 and 7pm depending on who arrives home first. Usually ridden 5 x a week but have been full of man flu/cold past few days so my youngster has had a week off whilst TB has been ridden a couple of times. Will be back on tomorrow as feeling MUCH better.

Have 2 horses in a 3 acre winter field - it's not good as we're on clay but it's winter; it happens every year and it will soon be Spring and we'll be moaning about too much grass (but first let's get through the big freeze and snow which will come!) :tongue3:
 
I started full time work yesterday, and the light just isn't there :( I am hoping to be able to lunge for 20 mins or so tomorrow morning once I've mucked out, and then will probably change at the yard and shoot off to be at my desk for 9am. I've gone from riding 5/6 times a week, so it might be a bit of a shock for me. I'm sure the horse will love the break though. Thankfully after this week I can do flexitime if pre booked, so hoping to ride in the mornings beforehand. I didn't realise how tough it was till these past two days! Saying that, I'm sure little mare won't mind a bit of time off, and she is out 24/7 anyway, she has all of her rugs redone in the morning and evening too, so fingers crossed she won't go completely feral... :D
 
Out overnight in field but spend most time around the hay feeder, adlib, on hardstanding.
In 7am to 7pm. Ones in work do 6 days per week, hacking, lunging, schooling. Compete each week or fortnight
 
They're both out for about 8 hours during the day. Their field is a bit muddy at the bottom by the water trough but luckily it's hardcored by the gate. The rest is holding up okay, they've got plenty of grass I just wish they wouldn't hoon around and put massive skid marks everywhere! One gets ridden once or twice a week, the other gets ridden about 5/6 times a week depending on how busy I am and what the weather is like! He had two weeks off over Christmas partially due to injury but is back in full work now.
I am however getting bored of hacking. Our school is grass and I went in their briefly this afternoon and it was alright but can't use it often or it gets too churned up.
 
Ours go out at 6 and in at 4. We are on clay and it is wet and muddy but they do not get ridden as at work. They are quite fit and hunt at weekends and on Weds where possible.
 
Out everyday from 9am until around 3pm, sometimes longer. So minimum 6 hours, unless the weather is awful, and then Elvis will be waiting by the gate looking miserable, so he's brought in sooner.

The field is probably only 1.5 acres and houses two big (nearly 17hh's) horses who are shod. And they like to go for a hooley pretty much everyday. It's actually holding up pretty well, mud is probably only up to the pasterns and only really in the gateways. There's not much grass, but enough.

I appreciate I'm luckier than most.

Forgot to mention Elvis is ridden 6 days a week. Would be lovely to have a walker too though.

Out 7:30 until sometime after 2. Mud is hideous round the gate and fence line but okay in the field proper. Ridden 6 days a week with a mix of schooling and hacking, but mainly schooling as we have an indoor school and the light just isn't there for hacking during the working week.
 
Dreadful, my worst winter ever. Only turnout is muddy area with hay to eat. Have hardly had a blade of grass to eat for weeks. Have to ride far more than normally in December as turnout is so limited and horrible.
When it has been really windy and heavy rain have had to keep in a yard.

My horse stands by a gate and looks longingly at the long, green grass that he is not allowed to place a hoof on. I did try to put them out but within 3 days it had gone from green to mud so had to put them back out on the hard-standing with mud on the top. Hope it dries up soon.
 
Out 24/7. I am quite lucky in that I have lots of ground available to me (they are currently running about 7 - 8 acres) which is quite hilly so while some areas are soggy, most of it drains reasonably well. Haven't been able to ride much recently what with christmas, but what with the hills I shouldn't think they've lost that much fitness :)
 
turnout from 6 am -6pm unless its absolutely foul - the yard owner brings them in - not sure the horses are that bothered :) 4 x 1hr 15mins walking hacks at week (yawn) and 15 mins on the lunge or schooled - he is 4 months into barefoot rehab so the hacking is important
 
We are lucky enough to have a woodchip turnout, but even that is under water and boggy at the moment.
My two get turned out about 8am with hay, then brought back in around 10am to more hay, ideally a bit of exercise, and a small lunch. They seem happy like this and both of them have never wintered as well.
Exercise wise, the mare is getting worked about 4/5 days a week, and the gelding is getting lunged or ridden a couple of times. I've lost my hacking partner temporarily though, so a bit bored!
 
very lucky here, sandy soil and long thick grass standing up the relentless rain ok. The worst bit is that the blinking moles have dug up the path a bit, so there are perfect circles of soil on the otherwise pristine grass, which annoys me :grrr: so turning out means serpentining around the mole hills lol!

they go out 6.30am and come in between 2pm and 3pm depending on how bad the rain is as lovely livery/helper and her mum can go up any time (within reason) after lunch so if its pouring down they come in early.

Fig and CS are working 5 days a week as normal and Bruce is taking his duty as an eating machine 24/7VERY seriously ............also as normal lol!!

thank god for sandy soil and floodlights.
 
Hunted once a week and 2 days off after that but ridden all the other days and turned out from 8 a.m - 6.30 p.m. Field is getting pretty trashed as we are on clay but I know we can roll it in the spring. My horse is old so needs to go out and mooch about. Today is the first day in ages I've kept him in but its supposed to absolutely piss it down from lunchtime onwards and I'm at work so can't get him in if he looks miserable. He has, however, been up the gallops this morning and had 45 mins proper good work so has had more than a leg stretch. I will let him out to mooch about the yard when I get home from work. No matter how much I worry about him charging up and down when its raining because he wants to come in, I see him in the top paddock grazing away quite happily when I drive home. Ah, the benefits of a Premier Equine rug with reflective strips and keeping your horse at home!!
 
Turned out 24/7 but have free access to stables and ad-lib hay as well.
Rising 4 year old is off until the spring having been backed in the autumn and rising 5 year old schools 3x week for approx 30 min a session and hacks 3x a week including one trip out in the trailer for extra adventures :)
 
Turnout isn't an issue for our yard (thankfully!) he goes out at 6.30am before work and comes in at 6pm. We are lucky enough to have a yard with plenty of well draining land! Riding however is a depressing subject :( weekends are all I can manage at the moment, which is a shame...
 
My fields were starting to resemble a quagmire around the gateways and where the 2 devils stand so i have had to bring them off it, i hate them being in all the time so have sectioned my driveway in half and have been turning them out on a half each lol! They get out 7.30am - 3.30 and are happy enough with a huge haynet to munch and i have cunningly put thier water the other end to their hay so they have to walk up and down and stretch their legs hehe;)

They have one day aweek on the field for a roll and run about lol

My old man is retired and my young lad gets ridden saturdays and sundays, i dont get to ride in the week as rarely see them in daylight cos i work 8-5 lol! dont have a school so happy hacking or the woods it is lol :)
 
I am very lucky where I am (London/Surrey), the horses are still allowed out all day,so mine is turned out from 7am-3.30pm, plus we have indoor and outdoor schools so riding isn't a problem. In fact, the outdoor school can be a little deep in the summer and so all the rain has made it into a much nicer surface to ride on.
 
Mine is turned out into a small paddock everyday for around 5-6 hours and then we go on a walk before grooming and bed.
 
Hi, my have been in since before Christmas due to very muddy fields but they get ridden every day for about an hour. I used to turn out in all weather but last winter my mare fractured her splint bone in muddy fields and the year before another horse damaged his check ligament in deep muddy fields. So now I keep them in well ridden and with lots of hay and that's where they will stay until it stops raining!
