How much weight can a TB carry?

Good advice to maybe try to get someone around your own weight.

Bear in mind though that an experienced rider @ 10 and a half stone for example would ride a lot lighter/more balanced than a Novice 9 stone.

Good Luck :)

Totally depends on the TB you have, some don't mind the weight, some don't like much over nine stone....

I have a 16.1hh ex racer who is three and was a flat racer, i wouldn't put any more than 9 and a half on her now but in a few years i'm sure she'd take ten.

I'm 7 1/2 stone so probably won't find many people at University who are the same weight. She carries my boyfriend fine and he is 10st and a novice (but a well balanced novice). She is quite fine and lean so I don't think I want anyone riding her who is over 8/9stone. Yes she is the one in my sig.

Thank you.

I have a 16h mw TB and my partner rides him too who is 12 stone, and this is fine. I wouldn't want any more weight above this though, this is the max as you have to add the weight of tack and clothing on too.

I knew a heavyweight show hunter who was full Wetherby-registered TB, 18hh and who easily carried a 19 stone man hunting two days a week. That was in between being shown at HOYS and county shows! I reckon he was the exception rather than the rule!!

If you hogged it and called it a polo pony, it (sorry for the "its") would be expected to carry up to 15st in a polo match

I think many people are quite precious about weights!

I have a 3yo 15.1 TB mare and I weigh 8st12, and I also ride TB racehorses as my job, and we have some much heavier people riding for us, I'd say 13st being the heaviest. :)
