Harley weighs 26kgs.

How much per day should I feed him?

If anything he could do with putting a bit of weight on. He's quite lean and is still growing/filling out. An Adult GSP should be 27-32kgs and as a boy should obv be in the upper range of that (and he was the largest in his litter).

So goin to feed more meat (muscle) than bone. But how many times a week should he get bone?

Got a load of offcuts from a butcher yesterday :)

They really need bone almost every day.

It needs to balance out to be about 10% bone 80% meat 10% offal.

Seeing as he has growing up and filling out to do i wouldn't be feeding him extra muscle that will just make him fat. Just feed him 3% of his body weight instead of 2% which you feed to maintain.

2% = 520g
3%= 780g

About the same size and a "high burner" my Malinois..three chook carcases..most of the usable meat off them, and a handful of dry..Gilpa Gold. Other GSD..much more of a plod, one chook carcase and tiny donation of Gilpa.Like us dogs can be slim but eat like pigs..or fat and eat very little. It`s trial and erroer.

Where do you get chicken carcasses from? I don't have room to buy loads in bulk and freeze. So was thinking whatever I can scrounge off butcher (although don't use one personally regularly, may need to change that) and a bag of frozen chicken wings/legs as needed from supermarket.

You will probably only get carcasses from a butcher as the supermarkets get that part done at a processing plant, and I don't think there are any near us.

The carcasses are great as they are the correct ratio of meat to bone for me as in the bulk of my diet I feed 80% bone 20% meat which is what you will find on carcasses and wings. Plus chicken bones contain a whole host of useful vits and minerals and chicken is the best meat nutritionally for dogs. Supermarket wings I would think that Harley would need 7-8 as he is a bit bigger than the boys and still growing.

If mine are working harder than normal, especially in summer I will put them on legs or quarters as there is more muscle meat on these, so that might be an option if you need him to gain a bit as he is still a little leggy, then once you are happier he can go back onto Carcasses and wings to maintain a good weight.

If you can get them from the butcher Breast of lamb is great for weight gain and usually very cheap, you can feed that a few times a week, mine get it once but again they are both mature dogs and don't need weight gain, though they would have you believe otherwise!

Rabbit is also good if you know anyone with ferrets, they only get £1 or £2 each for them so if you can stomach it buy them at source and get them to chop them up, you can leave the fur on as it's great roughage! Or you can also buy it from the butcher.

I get mine from a plant that prepares chooks into tasy meals, they have branches all over UK I believe ,other plants doing other type meats.Boxes and boxes of their "waste" come out of there every day.
