hiya, rather a longen so bear with.
ok firstly, are horses alot stronger then ponies, because someone told me they are roughly the same with just longer legs hahah!! (by stronger i mean how much weight they can carry) especially native ponies e.g connies...i think theyre pretty strong????
secondly, ive heard alot about the 20% body weight rule, does this include tack? and also, just because they can carry that much, does that mean they should have too??? (horses werent born to lug our buts around all day hahaha) if this is true...what do you think 20% body weight is for a 13.3hh tubby connemara x (kinda short in the body)
lastly, what do you think about riding ponies if your tall? if youve seen my previous post then sorry but i think im about 5ft5/6 and about 10 stone (eeeppp going on a dietr hahaha :p ) and i think i look really goofy on my pony hahahahah!!!! heres a video from xc training today:
eityher way im not selling him hahaha :p

just to add...not massively freaking out, just wondering really....ive seen aLOT of these recently hahah!!!! i love ponies lol!!!! (way better then horses....sorry :p)

I learnt to ride on ponies, as I went to a very small riding school which didn't teach adults and had a strict weight limit, so I didn't have the opportunity to ride anything bigger than 14h... However I am 5'10... Nearer 5'11 with riding boots on, just over ten stone and you'll still find me on a 12'2 welsh pony!! Bareback mind and only for short periods of time. I'm much better now but used to be petrified on a horse as they were so much bigger than what I was used to!
Ponies, especially native types, are strong little fellows and I think you've nothing to worry about!

Hi,

I've watched your video - and to be honest I don't see the problem - nice jumping BTW :). I'm 12st and my wee 14hh Welsh ponio takes me very well indeed. I can understand why you're feeling a little self-concious but please don't worry.

I think we are conditioned to believe that ponies are for small children and horses for adults - but I've ridden both (up to 18.2 Shire) and I am so pleased that I can ride a pony - they are so much more fun, cheeky, willing and have more joy and pure guts than a horse (sorry horse owners but higher they are the more sensible they are) - fact in point that today me and ponio out paced an experienced hunter and his rider was a little surprised....:D

Your fine, both weight & height wise. If you grow loads more, it maybe harder to progress if you get to be taller as it can put you off balance. That said, i'm 5'10, 9 stone & competed my 14.2 to a reasonable level, just needed swan neck spurs for flatwork as i'm all legs & look much taller on mine than you do. I'd also quite happily ride yours in public at my height despite the fact I would be too tall which you aren't. Very cute pony, & don't be persuaded to sell, connies rule.
