a kind of magic

One of my colts was cut last week, standing catstration. The following day he had proud flesh at both wound sites, so I phoned the vet and they came back out to tidy up the operative site. This was also done under standing sedation.
Now...a similar thing happened with my cats, one had to go back because of proud flesh after he was castrated and I was only charged for the drugs after the follow up op, not the actual procedure. My small animal vet used to do horses and used the same philosophy, but they did charge for the call out.
I was charged £460 all together, which I can't help but think is a little steep! How have you previously been charged by the vet and were you charged for any following procedures which were caused by the op? My other bugbear is that my colt was originally booked in to be gelded along with his teeth rasping the week previously.
The vet which was supposed to come out had to rush his wife into hospital so the practice sent out another vet, who didn't have the time or tools to do the gelding. So they just did his teeth and left. I was charged for this callout, as well as the callout to do the gelding! It wasn't my fault they had to come back out again so I am not very happy about that-would you contest it?
