How much will they stretch

Am I being unrealistic? I have a new pair of ariat heritage contour boots which I can do up with just socks on. The boots are snug but have softened a little from steaming them first. Will they stretch enough for me to get them on under my jods? I was lighter when I bought them and they have sat unused for the last 6 months. Do I admit defeat and get them on eBay?

I have a pair of Soubirac boots that were to tight. The bootmaker in town took them for a couple of weeks and put adjustable trees inside them to stretch them out to fit me.

I would think they'll give a bit. I've had several pairs of boots that are very snug at the start but soon slacken off. I wear them round the house as much as possible at the start to get maximum stretching time!
I'm assuming your socks are long if they're creating some of the thickness. Short socks would mean that you only have the jodhpurs' thickness to worry about.

Try spraying the inside of each boot with isopropyl alcohol and then wearing over your jods for a couple hours. This will proved a slight stretch. If you need more, I second the recommendation to take them to a local cobbler and they'll get the boots sorted.

I have two pairs of these exact boots for every day riding and they're an outstanding value.
