how much will you spend feeding hay/haylage this winter?

Last year I managed to get some big round bales of haylage from the farmer nr me for £35, I put them out in a feeder and they lasted 2 weeks with my three out 24/7. This year he's not selling them! So have had to get some small bale hay at £5 a bale but I've managed to start stocking up on the big bale rectangular haylage at £35 a bale, don't want to open these yet though as they don't last when it's still a bit warm and muggy.

Have 2 possibly 3 ponies this winter and have bought in 120 bales at £4 and will buy in another 60 / 80 bales which I will use overnight when they come in and for the day i'll put big bale haylage in the fields at £45 a throw. They get through a big bale haylage in about 10 days when they're out.

So perhaps another £300 on hay and £360 on haylage.

I like them to have ad lib forage as the grass isn't great and they're babies so need good nutrition.

Feel REALLY lucky to be here (Ireland) now: large round bale haylage from my farmer neighbour is €18 = £16 delivered, very clean and palatable lg round bale oat straw €12 = £10.60.
