How much winter coat have your horses lost?

My big lad lives out all winter without a rug. He has almost got his summer coat on neck and shoulders but still has about half of his winter coat to lose on his body and is finding this hot weather a bit much. I have been plucking him tonight - the birds will have some lovely nesting material tomorrow morning :)

My vet saw his thick coat in March and asked if he lost it in summer so I have this little nag in the back of my mind although he always has in the past.

My other rugged horse is a bit further along in his coat loss.

We are in the South.
 
My 2 3 year olds were out all winter unrugged & are loosing it but holding onto that last bit & i think they are regretting it now !
 
I clipped mine ten days ago, otherwise he'd still have a pretty significant coat from the shoulders back. He's always been slow to lose it. He's in at night and rugged all winter. Some of them just hang on to it!
 
5 yr old still has a lot to lose on his body. Neck and face are looking good

30 yr old seems to have lost loads since the weekend but has cushings so still loads left

Shetland pony seems to still think it's winter, he's sooo fluffy still. But lots comes out in the brush.
 
Mine still has a bit to go but I think that's due to the fact that we've had a good few weeks of high temps during the day and still some frosts at night. He still has some on legs and back but not much more to come out - those of us who have the hairy happenings on the yard have been providing some tropical birds with bagfuls of lovely nest liner for weeks :)
 
One all (Native, clipped early winter), one 1/2 (Unclipped PBA living out 24/7), one that was clipped late- none!
 
Clippers came out this week so it's all gone. He'd only just started shedding so it won't alter how the summer coat looks. Filled 2 feed sacks with it.

I wont clip after end Jan so mine keep leaving loads of patches of fluff round the fields so you can see who rolled where
 
My eventer who was fully clipped in nov has her full shiny summer coat. My 5yo who had a blanket clip in nov has pretty much got her summer coat, still shedding a bit but not much. My mini Shetland who wasn't clipped however is still losing it by the handful! No good grooming him to get it out as the brush is just full of hair with one stroke. Been pulling it out by hand every day for 10 minutes a time which is actually quite therapeutic!
 
8yr old TB chaser clipped in Dec, been losing it very slowly for last month or so (hair coming off but no visible change) then more obvious in a few patches, and finally in the last couple of days summer coat is coming thru proper! Just holding on to it on his hindquarters and lower belly now.
 
It's coming out but still got a fair way to go yet, however he wasn't rugged or clipped at all so he was a yeti x wooly mammoth ;-)
 
My highland (a hairy beast!) has a chaser clip and won't lose his clip lines til June!! He's shedding like crazy at the moment but still got a way to go. He's currently in overnight in a lightweight rug and out rug less in the day. I wouldn't worry too much OP.
 
my sec A is clinging onto his woolies for dear life! he wintered out unrugged and is moulting but not much, my cobs who also wintered out unrugged already have their summer coats through just about, although i did cheat and clip one of them a few wks ago, not sure i fancy getting into a fight with the welshie and a pair of clippers though :(
 
TB has lost all, two natives are losing it but not fast enough as is the American Miniature. The Standardbred is hanging on and I daren't even look at the ID/TB, he's 17 hands of white so I prefer to let him do his own thing. The pygmy goats are also shedding.
 
Harry was clipped in November and got a bit hairy and now is looking a slight dun colour. His neck is starting to go back to bay but he is holding onto the rest of his coat on his body. Should have clipped him in Jan lol
 
Well they do say "ne'er cast a clout 'til May is out" so I think there's a way to go yet. It's still pretty chilly at night, my TB who was last clipped at the end of December has been naked during the day for a fortnight and for the last couple of nights too. He hasn't really got his summer coat and I will put his "mac" on if it rains hard as I don't think he's fully waterproof yet. The Sec A is still fluffy and although I groom him most days I'm not rushing it - nature knows best!
 
I am in northern Spain and mine is exactly the same as yours. Lovely summer coat on the neck and shoulders and fluffy and moulting over the back, rump and belly. It is like a blizzard every time I groom her!
 
My old 7/8 TB cushings has barely lost any although he is moulting a bit. But has been getting very sweaty on his neck/chest.
He's fully retired but I'm seriously considering giving him a chaser clip soon!
 
Andalusian X, rugged all winter, about halfway-done. Thankfully it's coming out pretty evenly, not in patches, so he still looks neat! (Well, apart from missing half of his mane.)
 
Seems like more than he had in the first place - he's been shedding for weeks now but there is still plenty to go, despite the fact that his clip lines have all but disappeared. Field is covered in hair.
They are staying rugless tonight as forecast wet and warm - maybe the rain will wash some out ;)
 
My 23yo PBA has his whole summer coat through - I'm just raking the last stubborn winter hairs out. He always starts from mid february like clockwork every year. My 4yo is holding onto his winter coat with a vengeance - he has all those horrid long hairs still covering his jawline and belly and has quite a plush coat still. I'm raking him every day and some is coming out but he's obviously not quite embraced the summer weather.
 
My 3/4 TB is holding on to his for deal life. He wintered in but is unclipped. I'm giving him a good brush/de-hair etc using a shedding blade, rubber curry comb & these rubber brush things twice daily to try & get rid of it for him. I can tell its driving him mad now.
My Sec A & Exmoor mares both wintered out unclipped, but seem much more comfy.
They've lost most of their winter woollies & are give the same treatment as my big lad.
They're all out at night now, we've had some frosts & chilly mornings so the TB is rugged at night but the girls are going nekkid.
 
Poppy (Welsh PB), coming out by the handful. Dino (Sec A) is losing it, but not sure where! Not much coming out when I groom, doesn't seem to be leaving it in the field either.
Maybe the Fairies are grooming him over night!! ;-)
