....how much is the going rate ? .

Its about 8ft long according to the farmer .

Anyting between £20 and £40 dep on quality and if delivered and how many purchased. Could be very diff where you are tho!
 
Depends where you are in the country - in the Arable areas (especially around us in Suffolk) you can pick up a Heston bale (3ft x 3ft x 8ft approx) for about £7 per bale. The small "conventional" bales are 50p - £1 depending on wheat/barley straw, age, and how well you know the farmer!

We are getting just the one ...as we are limited to room at the livery yard , This is the very large bales, According to the farmer, he said there would be about 2/3 round bales in one big square bale .

He is delivering it ...Distance would be about 3 mile max ...Hes charging £50 .

Its not bad quality but not great .
 
Blimey! Last year I got nearly all my straw for free because I was buying haylage off the farmer, and he would throw in the straw for free (also helps he is best mates with my boyfriend). I have never paid more than £1 per small bale or £10 per big bale (round bales are around £5).
