Just out of pure nosiness, how much did you all pay for your horses/ponies? Anyone who does not mind not being anonymous could add what they got for their money that would be great! Obviously if your horse was £2250 it would go in the under £3000 box

I paid the £10K + for the last three horses I had!

Spider is totally worth what I paid for her (even though I thought it was a lot at the time as she was swapped for the Novice eventer Fitz I had) she has an excellent head on her, is extremely bold, very work man like and the best horse I have had so far. She has great eventing and SJing breeding so hope to breed from her once she has had some fun eventing!!!

And I didnt pay anything for Mac as he isnt mine! I just have the ride on him this season

£5000 as a rising 4year old, was hugely over priced back then as he was thin, ill looking and generally looked like a neglect case but 2years on and hes looking fabulous and going well so worth it

They charged more though because of his breeding - always the way

Well Mo was £400 a 15.3hh TB type chestnut mare age about 7-8 at the time (3yrs ago). Done nothing for 6mths, a complete idiot out on her own, but with time has become a real sweatheart. Never sell her.
Shadow bought last year as a 7yr old never reg but is by Trojan Legend ex of a TBxTrak mare. 15.2hh dark bay mare with trust issues. Difficult to bridle, napped for England other then that fairly well put together & nice paces.
Sas 2k 15hh reg QHxWelsh rising 5yr old had done nothing. Had confidence issues, but again with time has made good progress, but if I had my time again in no way would I have paid that for her. It was because we had just lost our QHxAA mare & I dont think I had my proper head on!!
Prince is home bred but his stud fee was £450

well one of mine was a freebie and since having him I have done BD / BE / BSJA and RC teams and regained all the confidence I lost on my former horse.

One was £9500 as a 4yr old, other was £3000 as a 5yr old...12 yrs ago! Bargain though as wasextremely naughty and at the yard to be 'sorted out'.

Ive bought 3 unbacked nativey youngsters for £500. Made a £2k profit on those once backed.

Most Ive spent on a horse was £3500 who actually turned out to be my worst buy! Otherwise my horses are usually £1000 - £3000, all green 4 or 5yo's.

Bloss was £2.5k - she was 9 when i brought her, lazy, on the forehand and pretty porely schooled. Oh and it took me 6months to get her to leave the yard! Oh, and she wouldnt load either, took 4hrs and 3 people to load her when i collected her! But she was definately worth it and i wouldnt swap her for the world!

Archie was £10k plus bracket. i thought i was getting a 5yr old that i would be able to take out and compete BD that would go to the top. Instead i got a psycho horse that was totally different to how he was when ridden when i tried him out, but that is now just starting his competition career 4months down the line. He is worth more than what i paid for him already, and by the end of the year will be worth a substantial amount more than that. And he does have the potential to go to GP

2 freebies (permanent loans) and one I paid under 2K for because she was green and of unknown breeding, she was a bit of a project but has doubled her value - not that I am thinking of selling

My first pony Oliver was given to me, so paid nothing there, as was Millie. And i paid £1500 for bobby (from a family friend who was very ill) Although i paid peanuts for him, he was actually for sale for £7000

I paid £890 for a section D 10 year old, 15hh who was facing a bullet! (I didn't know he was a phyco- he looked lovely in the auction ring! and i had two very experienced people/buyers with me)

I now have a fantastic horse who i'm smitten with. He goes showing doing M&M, Sec D, Riding Club horse, sjing, xcing, and has nice paces and should get to elementary dressage (possibly higher with a lot more hard work)
I've out a lot of hard work and lessons into him as it is but he just keeps learning and surprising me! We aim to get to elementary level by June 2008!

I paid £300 for Maddy, she was 12 years old, skin and bones, bald from mainge and had just been backed...by me! She attacked people and was a complete misery, but I couldn't let her go back in that state so I bought her. She turned out to be a wonderful jumper and although she's still a bit loopy she's a beautiful looking pony and I've had her 8 years now.

I paid a fair bit for Flash (under 7.5k bracket) but I couldn't put a price on a horse like him, he's the only thing I would ever get up at 5.30am for and he always puts a smile on my face. He's worth it for his personality alone, its a bonus that he has potential and is in my opinion rather pretty
smile.gif
I've had him 4 months now, he's given me back my confidence and got me jumping and competing again (something I never thought I would do) and come on himself in leaps and bounds. He really is my horse of a lifetime

I paid £2.5k for a late started WB that was known to be quirky and had mild sweet itch, not too honest to load. Well bred both parents come from international showjumpers and her sire was international. If I was to sell her tomorrow i'd get more

I know that feeling - taking my new dressage horse to her first comp and being astonished that I didnt get placed

. Where are the 'push button' horses?

I paid €1700 (£1150) for Castle (with tack), he was 11 when I got him
smile.gif
He hadn't been ridden for a while, as he was outgrown, but was 100% bombproof, had hunted, and had done all pony club activities. At the time all I was looking for was a safe and reliable first pony
smile.gif

I paid £900 for Axel when he was a yearling as a potential dressage horse. I have shown him in-hand and he has won nearly every time out inc the PBA and Anglo UK championships
smile.gif

I have done 1 ridden showing class with him which he also won, and I am going to show him seriously this year with a view to qualifying for the Cherif champs
grin.gif

He's now 5 btw

Will also try and do some dressage this year too!

Both of my 2 are freebies, so go in the less than £250 box. The most expensive I had was £1600, for the mad grey pony, who I sold for £5k after 12 months hard work. And only other £1k plus horse died of grass sickness. Then my 3 ponys Shetland (bought in 1976) cost 180guineas

, Oh was my dad in the doghouse for that one, turned out to be the best value for money, Then 12.2 £250 (in 1983) was a little sh*t but taught me a lot, then 13.2 swapped her for a 200 guinea cob bought from the sales. All of them stayed until the end, apart from a couple of loan spells to friends!

I paid £250 for my Welsh C x, as it was that or leave her for the meat man ~ She's my baybee ~ and I'd sell my house before I'd sell her.
Got the Shitlands free ~ would seem rude to return them now, but feel like it some days!!
Paid £2, 500 for BB, she was up for 4k, but as she was here, and owner had no money...

£10,000+ Amazing sums of money, spent on amazing horses, but would be completely wasted on me, 'cos I can't ride for tuppence!!
